Dickie Dietz was my cousin (by marriage). I still have a baseball he sent me when I was about 10 years old, autographed by the 69 or 70 Giants, including D1ck, HOFers Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, and Juan Marichal. D1ck was also a good football player, and considered playing for Alabama before opting for pursuing a career in baseball.
In my mind, SC's best HS football players were Steve Fuller, Jadaveon Clowney, Roscoe Crosby, and Stanley Morgan.

I remember him. Became a rb more so than a qb at Clemson. Was not good at catching the ball out of the backfield but yet was a dependable holder for most of Eddie Siegler's kicks.

George Webster from Westside High in Anderson in the 1960s. He was a Rover at Mich State and was selected as the best defensive college player of the 1960s decade over #### Butkus. He was selected as a LB on the all time AFL team, but a knee injury ended his career and kept him from the Pro HOF.

What about Woody at Orangeburg.
Dantzler attended Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, where he played quarterback. As a sophomore, he became a starter in the fourth game of the season, finishing with 1,761 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. As a junior, he passed for 2,461 yards, 22 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
As a senior, he led the state with 2,891 passing yards and 21 touchdowns, while also collecting 1,628 rushing yards, 19 rushing touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He received SupePrep All-American, All-State, All-Region, All-Area, All-Area Player-of-the-Year, District Player-of-the-Year and Offensive Player-of-the-Year in the state honors. In his three-year career, he completed 507-of-791 passes (.640) for 7,113 yards, 60 passing touchdowns, 3,134 rushing yards, 35 rushing touchdowns and 11,000 all-purpose yards.
He also finished third in the state in the 400 metres competition.

Flowers went on it to Georgia Tech and played in the NFL for a while, possibly with the Steelers if I remember correctly.
Pretty sure Woodard was a four year starter at West Virginia.

I'd have to say Freddie Soloman. I didn't see him in person but his clips we4 amazing.
Bishopville had a great QB on their 1972 AA State Championship team, Carey Scarborough, who played baseball at Clemson. In the Championship Game against Woodruff on the last play, he took the hand off to run out the clock and swept right, reversed to the left then back to the right and ended up stopping in the backfield to see which way the defenders were going to go. Freddie was like that on about any play!

Let’s not forget Corey Carter from 96. I played and went to high school with him. SC player of the year and top 10 running back all time . Also if it wasn’t for knee injury would have went power 5. Unfortunately he passed in 07 and could have played NFL Iif not for liukemia.

I've seen a couple mention him, but I think DeQuan Bowers is widely overlooked. Sure, injuries caught up with him in the NFL, but people seem to forget that he did live up to the hype as the #1 ranked overall recruit. Went on to win the Ted Hendricks and Bronko Nagurski trophies his senior year, as well as ACC DPOY. ####, before said knee injuries derailed his NFL career, he was at the top of most mock drafts his senior year.

George Webster of Westside HS in Anderson, Michigan State and the Houston Oilers........and its not even close. He was on the NFL All-Century Team at Outside Linebacker.

Funny story. I worked with a dude from South Florida who bragged "ALL-The-Time" about Florida H.S. ball and Florida kids and how good they are. Mcintosh at the time was Miami's leading tackler, LOL! And, of course, I let him hear it.
Sad thing is he was headed to Clemson; but for a report of supposedly some funds going his way stopped his committment. Turns out to have not been true; and we missed out on him.
Plenty of talent from S.C.
Nobody asked but if you had to have a starting 5 to take on other states - South Carolina could play with anybody.

Donnie Shell went on to play at SC State and win 4 SB's with Pittsburgh and a hall of fame member now.
Forgotten legend out of Gaffney
Kentrell Jones is the best hs QB I have ever seen and no one knows who he is, never went to major college (grades/tragedy at home I think) but was unbelievable.
