Since Cade is so great

Can we just cut the “he’s a true freshman and how quick can he learn the playbook nonsense” and name the young man our starter for 2022? If we let Cade develop the first three or four games to start the year I believe he will be ready when the games get tougher. I am not comparing Cade to TL 16 but someone remind me what year was Trevor when he lead us to the National Championship?

It amazes me how freshmen qbs come in to some programs (out of hs) and set the world on fire. But it’s too “complex “ at Clemson?
I think Cade will be fine and hope DJ will be as well.

This kid has not even taken a snap and people want to compare him to TL. Get real, this kid is 6'2 not 6'6, he needs to add strength and wt. He needs to learn so many things and remember DU was also rated really high coming out of HS. No QB could have taken us to an undefeated season with all the injuries and inexperience we had this year. Get freaking real!!!!

You are completely wrong on this one. Deshaun or Trevor and we win every regular season game as well as an ACC title. Do we beat Bama? Who knows, but our defense was stellar, we just needed a decent offense and TL or DW would have easily taken care of that, regardless of injuries.

Give me a break----We didn't win them all with TL and DW, and they had several recievers who are playing in the NFL---DJ has none.

Lost by 7 against UGA, overtime at NC State, by 10 at Pitt with a TD literally handed to them by DJ. I wouldn’t think of blaming all of our offensive woes on DJ this year but he was historically bad. If you think that DW and TL aren’t worth at least another 7 points per game on this years team and wouldn’t hand a TD to Pitt you clearly either don’t watch the games or have no clue what you are actually seeing on the field.

6 2, 185 and is compared to DW rather than other Tigers QB's, however I think if DJ improves, then Cade can be backup for at least a few games?

Everything I read says he’s 6-3. He’s not some 6-1 guy trying to be rounded up to 6-2. Plus he is mobile and accurate and seems to actually know what the defense is doing so he already has an idea where he’s going with it and when he wants to get it to the WR which puts him a few miles ahead of DJ.
The only thing I worry about is the combover suggests male pattern baldness at an early age but then I remember our last male pattern baldness player was pretty good - Mr Renfrow.

Re: Got to earn the starting job for any position at Clemson

Not Cade, not DJU (top QB in 2020 class), not Tavien Feaster (5* RB who got beat out by 3* Travis Etienne), not nobody gets anointed the starter at Clemson based on his pre-Clemson press clippings.
All of them got to earn their job.
If Cade K. earns it in spring practice and summer camp, then he'll be the starter on Game 1. If Cade K. only 'ties' with DJU, then DJU will almost certainly be Game 1 starter because DJU will have the benefit of much more experience playing the QB position in college.
Easy enough!

I'll respond like this post is from a younger Tiger gent or a newer Tiger fan ...
So, several issues are at stake: 1) Every starter has to earn his position. C. Klubnik also has to, wants to and needs to. The QB position must be earned. 2) Learning the playbook and how to audible is just a start. It takes time, and that said, taking shortcuts can hurt later. 3) C. Klubnik will have a path to start. Some players are tight with DJ and will prefer DJ. Others will feel the opposite. Again, the guy who earns it has chance to unite the team in the most important position on the field. 4) Dabo sees Cade as more of a DW4 type QB on the field than a TL16 -- mobile, clever, adaptive, instinctual, accurate, and a leader. I am good with that. 5) I believe C. Klubnik will start in 2022. When will be up to Dabo and Street - when they feel C. Klubnik is ready and has earned the team's respect. 6) Finally, can DJ U. make a mammoth jump in performance in 2022? Was DJ hurt this year and could not run or pass? We shall all find out.
Go Tigers!

Well said... let it play out. Anything could happen.
Dabo will play the guy that gives the team the best chance to win. Anything could happen. Cade could get in a car accident, DJU could be the player we saw at Notre Dame this spring/summer.
Both of them could do horribly and we have to go to option 3 or 4.
We could get a QB from the portal. AOC could be correct and the world will end due to climate change.
I understand the excitement, Cade sure did look great yesterday, but he has to earn the spot. I also understand we can not wait till the GT game and have fun speculating on this site (including me).
In Dabo we trust b/c he has earned it and we are not allowed to question him. Only Judge can question on this site (just joking judge).... the Tigers played great vs NC State yesterday.
Can not wait to watch it play out and regardless who takes snaps, we will have a great year next season. Really excited to see this team take the field and really excited for our 2023 recruiting class !!!
Go Tigers !!!

for him is hitting the weight room hard and adding some good weight. He does that, and grasps the playback, I don't see how you can keep the kid off the field.

That’s another reason why coming in early will be very beneficial: He will put on 10 pounds of muscle in the next 8 months.

If DJ is not showing signs of improvement before the season starts and he is looking bad in the first game of the year, Cade will be put in for a series. If he looks good, he stays in.

He will play, but not start. My goodness, does everybody forget the abilities of DJ? If so go back and look at the games he replaced TL in with experienced receivers and a better line. He now has both because he had to deal with all the injuries. I am happy that CK chose CU, but if Manning happens to do the same every one will toss CK to the side like they are doing with CJ. Let the coaches coach.

100% agree that whoever earns the starting spot should start and I am fine with DJ starting if he truly beats CK out but I am not going to forget about our QB play this past year so it has to be much improved for DJ to start and hold onto that position.

I would actually love for DJ to earn it, ball out and Cade sit a year. That is the ideal situation. I really would love to see DJ succeed, but if this is not in the best interest of the team so be it.

I remember that is what everyone said about DW4 and he proved us all wrong, but he did gain size and muscle quickly. I believe Cade looks a little bigger than Deshaun now at this stage so we shall see.

I truly doubt CK will either. Even if he has a higher ceiling, the floor will be lower based on experience and adjusting to the college game. The key to the early part of any season is to avoid a damaging loss(or2) that can kill your later season goals as the team gels/improves and the inexperienced gain the needed experience and make the adjustments needed to win bigger games.

Hopes that this is a very, very difficult decision for Dabo to make in late August. What could be better than to begin 2022 with TWO QBs capable of winning in all? Go Tigers.
