in the streets. The tariffs just might save them for a time. 90% of shrimp consumed here is imported and makes huge profits for sellers due to low cost of product. Now , unless those importers slash profits to maintain market share shrimpers along the Gulf are gonna be able to compete.
End user’s likely will just need to be ready to pay more. Gonna make my gumbos, jambalaya and etouffee more costly to make. Already use Louisiana crayfish so it will be okay.

It won't change my habits OMR. Seriously don't you prefer Thai shrimp for the extra flavor of heavy metals and a nice coat of E.coli.
Domestic shrimping is a tough business. I personally don't eat shrimp unless I KNOW it's been caught by family or bought by me at the coast.
Restaurant shrimp is as you say typically from Asia. No thank you.

but regardless, seafood is about to get a whole lot more expensive across the board. At least we can finally dispel the myth of the Chilian Sea Bass, being that it is nothing more than Alaskan bottom feeders like Ling Cod and Skulpin.

I do like Royal Reds though. They come off the IQF boats round here, they taste like lobsta.

every fast food and chain restaurant across the country, hasn’t even done minimal research on what kinds of places those actually come from. It’s pretty horrifying. I’m perfectly happy buying local browns and whites for $6/lb from some sketchy guy at the flea market because I know those came out of a creek within 10-15 miles from there.

Except that shrimp are so widely popular in the U.S., we HAVE to use imported shrimp as our domestic production can't meet the demand.
If we rely too much on the domestic production, guess what's going to happen? Yep... we're going to fish them all out. Then shrimpers will be bringing in hauls like the early days of Forrest's Jenny I.
I prefer local shrimp, too, but you can kiss them goodbye if the imports stop.
Couple that with the shrimpers' growing gas prices, boat repair prices, employee wages, etc...
Folks, there is no scenario where we can sugarcoat this disaster.
