The idea that I should donate my money to a student athlete that already gets tons of benefits and a free education, nah I'm good. I'm sure people will not agree but I rather donate money to a better cause and that's not enriching student athletes.

I have always taken the money that I have available for such things to pay IPTAY and purchase tickets which is my available contribution to Clemson athletics. I will purchase Mafah’s T-shirt because I believe he is the best back in the country and I want to wear the shirt on gameday.
The admins for IPTAY and 110 society are too big and too costly. No one seems to be worried about cutting admin costs for the two organizations. This entire NIL thing was supposed to be about players sharing in REVENUE not shaking down the boosters for money. There is no way I am going to send some of my limited money to support a 18 year old driving a car that is nicer than mine. If they don’t want my scholarship money to attend class, I will find another organization. Right now, Tiger Band is at the top of the list.

Agree so I am 30+ year footers season ticket holder, IPTAY Life donor, basketball season ticket holder … that’s enough.

The NCs under Ford and Dabo were great and if the Tigers don't get another before I'm gone, I'm satisfied that UofSC doesn't have one and probably has less then a 1% chance to have one, even if I live to a 100+. Win a NC or not, life goes.
If I want to contribute to professional athletes, I'll go to the games.
And then there's the scenario where the player takes the money and doesn't play, then bails for more money and "Juice". Not for me. I won't directly pay for that.

Just a slight at "Juice" Wells from UofSC that collected NIL most of the year and then hit the Portal.

This whole thing is just weird to me. It would be like if my employer was buying commercials saying "I need to give my employees a raise. Donate now so I can"
All of this nonsense can start to be fixed if we allow schools to pay salaries and sign players to contracts. Fixed rate or percentage of profit as a salary. No jumping into the portal until your contract is up. We keep tiptoeing around the fact that players are functionally employees. We need to go ahead and embrace reality.

I hated the thought of paying players but like you said, I'm to the point of paying the players and locking the players into a contract with financial penalties.

One big reason schools aren't simply making athletes employees is that the players could unionize at that point. Picture a collective bargaining effort and all the bickering that goes with it for 32 NFL teams, and multiply that by 5 or 6 times within the NCAA. Schools would lose a huge amount of revenue from concessions, ticket sales, television revs... so it ain't gonna happen

Not sure how allowing the schools to pay players directly will solve anything. First, Title 9 will not allow paying male football players and not paying the female athletes. Once players are paid employees, what will stop the UGAs of the world from still offering NIL plus paying players?

Paying players as employees won’t put booster NIL cash back in the drawer. It’s no different than pro athletes getting endorsement deals. What was foolish was to think college NIL would be only about appearing in Dr Pepper ads and signing jerseys because an athlete actually has NIL value. Nope it was always going to be corrupted into pay for play, because cash has always been paid under the table. NIL just took away the risk of getting penalized.
