So here we are, Ship is gone and Mafah’s speed has been a huge positive sign. He know he is a big bad back but it’s been awesome to see him break away for long runs.
But what if Mafah gets hurt? I know we have freshman on the way but recruiting has really hurt us. Thomas is gone and I am sorry, the answer isn’t Keith Adam’s junior.
For me, Spiller has a life time contract at Clemson. Without Dabo signing him during the Bowden years, I don’t see us ever making the incredible championship run.
That being said, we need help at RB in my opinion. What say you?

Yeah, I know we have freshman on the way but paint me skeptical after our recruiting dip, and lack of attention to RB \ fallback signing.
Again, lots of us posters sounded this alarm season upon season.
Lots of short memories on here.

Yup. A lot of the issues still exist. A 5-game win streak doesn't mean it's fixed (funny that we've regressed so much in 3 years that a 5-game win streak is seen as a great achievement). But now we have a real OL coach and a couple of incoming WRs that look like they are the real deal. Still not happy that we aren't utilizing the portal (just b/c we gave a couple of offers and a visitor or two doesn't mean we tried very hard). Very cautiously optimistic that the offense will be better next year. Lord knows we have a championship level defense.

he was our top choice in this class and we got him. I'm sure Mafah will get an uptick in playing time and the rest will fight it out. It also probably comes down to who can pass block the best so they don't get Cade killed.

Terry Allen from Commerce, Ga was my favorite Tiger runner ever. Epitome of tough and came back after knee surgery and played well in the NFL

We might. I never understood why we didn't get Haynes involved - we could have used a change-of-pace back type (maybe he's not that type of back?). Someone that might have some more quickness? So what we have on the roster now behind Mafah is a question mark for sure.

Ship is a good back and loved his leadership while at Clemson.

But I would really like to see a back with breakaway speed. I think Mafah could have a great year with decent OL play. Hopefully Haynes or Green can be a home run hitter in the open field.

It was a known that one of the two backs would leave. If we kept Ship Mafah probably leaves. Also the freshman RB came with the understanding that more than likely one of those guys would be gone.
Now if you want to say that the previous classes hurt us then yeah I’d say you are right. I feel we needed to bring in a better back but RB still isn’t a position I’m as concerned about.

If Mafah stays healthy I think we will be fine but it's never ideal for an entire position to hinge on one guy staying healthy. Hopefully the young guys will show out and give us some depth.

Assuming Mafah returns, I think we will be just fine at RB.
Haynes and Eziomume add an element to the RB room that we haven't had since Etienne left. Both are fast and explosive. I really think the 2nd spot will be won by either of them. We got to see glimpses of what Haynes can do. If he can add some more mass to his frame, he can be a factor for us. Eziomume is highly underrated, IMO. If he had stayed healthy for his entire senior season, I believe he would have finished much higher in the rankings. I think he has instant impact ability.
Adams Jr (physicality) and Green (vision) have some ability that you like. I don't anticipate either of them seeing significant snaps though. If they are our 4th and 5th options at RB, we'll be good at RB.

like you allude to, Haynes and Eziomume provide a better compliment and home run threat than Shipley.
Haynes looked much more explosive in his limited carries.

Mafah will be a 1,000 yard rusher if he stays healthy. Cade should certainly improve as a runner, especially as he adds more muscle to his frame. I can easily see 1,500 yards between the both of them.
I can see us getting 700-800 yards from the other RBs.
That would put us above 2,000 rushing yards for the season. I can live with that.

Agree. Cade gained 10 this offseason. No reason he can't do that again

at the very least, and get up to 215.
It felt like we came out this season asking Cade and the passing game to develop and carry us instead of relying on the running game and complimenting it with an improving passing attack. Once we switched that up beginning in the Notre Dame game, we became a better team.

Certainly we need a speed back ..... hopefully filled by Green, Haynes, our new freshman. It would be nice to have a pounder, like Mafah, who can also breat loose for 30 or 40 yards complimented by someone like Andre Ellington who could take it the distance every time he touched the ball.
