RIP Steve McMichael of the '80s Bears

That '85 Bears team, arguably the greatest NFL team of all time, sure was fun to watch, especially since it included Fridge and Fuller. Still hard to believe that team only won one Super Bowl.

It was sad that McMichael spent his last years with ALS like Dwight Clark did. It is such a terrible disease. Making the HOF last year was a bright spot for McMichael and his wife and family.

Yes, in my opinion that was one of the greatest seasons I have ever seen in professional football. Walter Payton, fridge, Richard Dent, Mike Singletary, and they were so much fun to watch. Who could ever forget the Super Bowl shuffle! I still have a video of that on one of my old VHS tapes. ALS is such a horrible and cruel disease. Steve McMichael was one of the great ones as well!

A memory of Steve McMichael. I lived in Rhode Island in the 1980s and enjoyed taking my sons to Bryant College to watch the NE Patriots preseason practices. Steve McMichael was drafted by the Pats, but stayed with the team for just a short period of time. Johnny Rembert and Rod McSwain were playing for the Pats then.

I was a member of a club, and we had DL coach Fritz Shurmur as a speaker one night. Fritz had a long NFL career as an assistant and was considered by some as a defensive expert.

At that meeting, Fritz stated that he had cut Steve McMichael that day. He said that McMichael was a hard worker but just didn't have the ability to play in the NFL.

The Bears signed McMichael immediately as a FA, and he played for them about 15 years. So much for NFL expertise.

Mongo McMichael! All time Bears great. That 85 D with Buddy Ryan at the helm was something to behold.
