According to some here -
Old guys here are the biggest sunshine pumpers around.
It's not the young guys that are the "we don't want to risk going back to the (fill in the blank with Hatfield, West, or Bowden) days crowd. --> Bluffton OrangeMan

I disagree as many older guys inhabiting the real world are the "risk takers" that some hiding in their Mom's basement are not.

Kids here on Tnet often slam the addled incompetence of older members.
Because some have survived to an older age these older folks are judged as being less informed and with lower IQ than the youth here who profess to know everything.
Is that accurate?

Most times it is a slam used in a debate as they have nothing else. Many have no real input to debate with except "Yo Mama".

My experience is most older folks and most younger folks are identical in most ways.
One exception is older folks may once have been part of the crowd who disparaged the elderly, but now know better. I never intended to make it to 30, but life kept getting better as I aged, so have stayed around.

Some old folks slide in to some form of dementia, but not most. Some young folks were born dumb, always have been dumb, and often express it here on Tnet.
Most folks here of any age are just average good folks. That has been my experience. Even folks I am positive are wrong, are civil and intelligent. I would say the average Tnetter is better educated, and better informed than the average person.

One good example who posts here often is LBB. You and I might often disagree as to what he posts, but his thinking is as sound as any here. It is very unlikely most here will be as physically and mentally sound at his age as obviously most of us are not that now. The odds of you (or me) being that sound (or alive) at his age is unlikely. There are hundreds here like LLB.

Higher IQ is one deal. Experience gives some folks wisdom. Education is a plus, and I don't just mean school. Having all only comes with age.

Once (against my will) I was forced to mentor kids about 20-25.
Having been that age once, knew what it was, the reverse for them not being true.
My first message was to think back 5 years ago how dumb you were. Compare that to "now".
I have found that to be true all my life.
At 78 I know a lot more than I did at 73. If you are different, you need to make changes.

I grew up in this 4 room Mill Hill house and had it all.

My parents were not high school grads, survived on a dirt farm.
I never went hungry like they did when kids.
They had high IQ and dreams that my siblings and I would do Ok.

We all did. Parents then and now are different.

"I would say the average Tnetter is better educated, and better informed than the average person."

Half the population has an IQ below 100. And 100 isn't very smart to begin with.

My 19 year old ‘know it all’ stepson smirked because I didn’t know how to do a certain thing on my iphone. I stared him straight the eye and said “you can laugh at me when you can support a family, which by the way includes you. Don’t you dare laugh at me until then. I don’t know how to use this stupid phone because I’m busy taking care of my family.” He slinked away, and I hope it sent a message, this younger generation are tech wizards, but they really don’t know how to do crap. The same kid couldn’t even change a bicycle tire, and I had to do it for him
