Refs gift Miami a win at Cal.

My power went out at 11:00 PM. I couldn't watch the game, so I went to bed. Power came on at 1:30. I got up and watched the rest of the game. With two minute to go Cal had the ball on third down. QB scrambled but didn't get he yardage. Review for targeting. Announcers were saying it was a text book case of targeting. Game would have been over. Cal could have run out the clock. Review said, "There was no targeting." Miami got ball back, drove down field and score the winning TD with 26 seconds to play.

Sounds like Cal’s horrendous defense had something to do with it as well.

I agree you would hope Cal could have held.

You can't give up nearly 600 yards of offense to the opposing team and realistically expect to win. Come on, people.

Agree but it was clearly targeting.
Two weeks in a row Miami has been bailed out with timely missed calls.

Don’t get me wrong I want Miami undefeated when we beat them in the ACCCG but it’s crazy the way the ACC is protecting them.

I think last weeks call was right. It was surely exacerbated by the wrong TD call and shoddy reasoning for the overturn, but I think they got the call right.

The targeting non-call was so bad, that even the announcers couldn't find a way to support it.

I just got s chance to see it, and wow!!!

It's sad that the refs allowed the young man to be speared and to not allow Cal to keep the ball. It's dangerous and to think we got a personal foul on Glenn for Parker (I think) has accidentally rubbing down the helmet and shoulders of Glen...just absolute absurdity!!

Yeah I recorded the 2nd half and just finished watching. Anyway, totally understand what others are saying, Cal could certainly have left no doubt. Even that last drive for Miami. Force them to dink and dunk instead of giving up an 80 yard pass...

But to Brets point and yours, the targeting, and even roughing the qb calls across football is way too inconsistent. There's a reason for the verbiage "intent" as well as "leading " with the crown. Either enforce it strictly or just get rid of it.

Way too many games are being affected by officials throughout every conference. Seems like reviews have made it worse, not better.

Clemson gal, I have been screaming all season to anyone who will listen to me that there is a bad officiating epidemic right now in cfb. It's been bad for a while but it has reached the boiling point this season. Way too many games being decided by officiating and bad calls run rampant in every game.

I've seen a few people i watch on youtube like Josh Pate start to point this out and I hope it gains more traction. He even mentioned coaches should start speaking out against it and just eat the fines or let the school eat it. Something has to give though.

100% Amen! Officials have an extremely difficult, dang near impossible job, I

get that. But we are now at a point where officials, instead of confronting that and having rules written in a way that makes enforcing them realistic, they have made the conscious decision to selectively (and very inconsistently) ignore or enforce them. 90% of holding calls are ignored. Pass interference is ignored over half of the time, and when it is called, it is a coin flip, all over the place. And targeting ... jeez. These are all things that affect the outcomes of games. The officiating is a horrendous, pathetic joke as is, but dumb fans just accept it as unavoidable, the way it is.

If it would have been Clemson it would have been targeting every time. Last night Cade gets his helmet twisted around and had to listen to the announcers explain or excuse that missed call.

I'm fine with penalizing players who intentionally initiate helmet-to-helmet

contact, dangerously using the helmet as a weapon. Where we are now is where non ball carriers must constantly be on guard against tackling or contacting another player in any way that could possibly be construed as targeting, which as defined, can very easily happen unintentionally (and very often does). Regardless of the reasons, should not have to be played under those conditions, nor should we expect it to be.

Yes, protect all players as much as possible, especially kids, but we have to accept and understand that football is a highly competitive sport in which size, strength, speed, toughness and raw aggression are important, integral characteristics, and therefore physical injury is unavoidable and part of the game.

Guy launched himself at the ball carrier leading with his helmet.

It was the most obvious targeting I’ve ever seen. He launched right into him, leading with the crown of the helmet and both feet off the ground.

ACC office made that call…

Speared him. Not even remotely legal.

Looks like pretty obvious targeting. College football makes bad calls like this and we just keep watching. No need for them to change.

Bret, FSU better than given credit for. I thought it would be a competitive game. Some of these youngsters that never played calling for a blow out don’t have a clue. They need to go home to mommie. 😂

Cal shouldn't have even put themselves in a position to let the refs decide the game after being up 35-10 in the 3rd quarter. I do agree they absolutely botched that call like they are so good at doing now all across cfb, but Miami still had all three timeouts and there were 51 seconds at the time of the call. So they technically still could have gotten the ball with about 30 seconds left. Like i said though, it was am atrocious call.

I was surprised the announcer was so adamant it was a penalty. I didn’t think so. I also believe the Cal qb played it to the hilt, hoping for the call. Went from writhing in pain to just fine in a hurry
