And when I looked at the Gator Bowl replay yesterday we need some OL. At time there were some nonexistent blocks. Also some runs where there was no puch. Briningstool carried Mafah in for a late td after the disappeared

Amen JREwing® ... OL has been the nadir of the Clemson Football for decades but particularly since 2019-2020 when Anchrum and Simpson graduated. Salary spent on a full-time OL recruiter would be much better value than another on-field coach.

We carried 14-16 the entire time Dabo has been HC and experienced one of the greatest runs in CFB history. Yet you want us to believe this is the problem when we know we had substandard coaching plus some recruiting misses/bad evaluations.

Every is a strong word. It’s my understanding that nearly all FBS teams used the portal except Clemson and the service academies. I f everyone improved their record wher did all of those extra losses go?

133 FBS teams. 129 use the portal.

The only ones that don't are the 3 military academies, and Clemson. West Point, Annapolis, and Colorado springs can't can't use it because it takes a Congressional appointment.
Clemson is the outlier.

fact, I would bet some worsened their team chemistry and therefore results. Now I do believe judicious use is warranted to plug holes when you can, e.g. 2-3 per year.

Follow the link below and tell me how many teams have used the portal to better their roster and record . Many desperately need to better their roster!
Only 6 teams have a better record than Clemson during these “down years”. In addition, Clemson has been ranked in the top 20 at the end of the year every year since 2020, again during our “down years”.
Everyone talks about how much NIL and the portal are helping everyone, but all but a few are still way behind the Tigers.
Given Dabo’s track record, I will trust his decisions. The teams above Clemson in wins and ranking have always been good.
Sounds like a bunch of crybabies that are mad Dabo can’t win the championship every year. Let me tell you, nobody can win at that level every year. I don’t mind people having different opinions, but the posters on here that talk nasty to people that don’t want to bash the team and coaches are delusional. If you think you can name a better coach than Dabo, let’s hear your choice, and justify that selection. Otherwise you are blindly criticizing one of if not the best coach in the country.

“…better their roster…” maybe, but did they have a better team, a team that achieved more than they would have WITHOUT portal players. U may could say Colorado who probably would have been 0-12 w/o mercs but weren’t much better with them. ‘Noles too but best player Travis not a TP get and when he went down rest of team abdicated so again were they a better team because of the portal.
Idk last season was an embarrassment for CFB. Only ESecPN & pundits benefited. Certainly not players, fans or schools

How did they “better their roster”? Did they achieve something they otherwise wouldn’t have? Did they end up with a better team”? Most arguments I have seen for agressive use of the portal don’t seem to have much substance yet assessment of a head coach’s worth apparently depends on it and irrespective of the outcome.

People are understandably baffled as to why Dabo continues being so weird about the transfer portal, to the point that the program has visibly declined over the last few years.
Logic states that the would be able to adapt to the new era of college football, especially since he is paid handsomely to do so.

I feel that his contract was justified based on the incredible success he had in the 2010s.
What bothers me is what he has done since then. He’s managed to take an elite program that he built, and due to stubbornness and hubris, made it an underachieving program that is clearly on the decline.
Quite simply, he isn’t earning his salary the last three years. He probably won’t earn it this year either. At what point can rational fans start to ask if he is worth it?

I am not baffled, Dabo does not want quitters on his team. He has proven he will take a graduate transfer. Would you rather have Dabo and no portal transfers or Beemer and some portal transfers?

Why can’t we have a better version of Dabo?
I’d like to see the Dabo of the 2010s, fun loving and carefree, who took calculated risks, rather than the Dabo we see today, who appears arrogant, annoyed, and stubborn.
The difference in our offense sums it up: we used to go fast-paced, exciting, and scored a lot of points. That’s when we were at our best, and won a lot of games. Now we are slow, predictable, score much less, and don’t win nearly as much.

Question is how much does Clemson have and max amount what they want to give per player and how much is allocated to cover the sports they will spend monies on. Would be interesting to know how the Tigers stack up againt other schools and their budget for NIL players.

I heard it on Clemson football live podcast that Clemson uses NIL to retain players not to “buy” players so to speakin regards to football.

WR and OL in 2021.
CB and OL in 2022.
QB, WR and OL in 2023.
We’re close. But it seems unlikely we can get over the hump by just signing high schoolers while everyone else adds high schoolers and portal players.
Especially since our recruiting classes are getting worse. We haven’t signed a top 10 class since 2021. That’s 3 straight cycles. This class won’t be top 10 either, so 4 straight.
