Play Calling!

I thought Morris called a very timid, safe game last night instead of utilizing our talent. Way too many outs and passes in the flats! How many series did we start with a 3 yd out to Sammy or out to Bryant?
We hardly threw to our TEs or RBs in the middle of the field and we hardly threw to our WRs in the middle of the field. Every pass pretty much was to the sideline, which I don't understand.

Really, I would challenge that! And you could see how we struggled for 2 quarters last night........

I thought the play-calling was predictable and unimaginative

And, no, I don't know more about Chad Morris, but I do know that 100 passes to the flat becomes pretty predictable and zero passes over the middle and zero slants where there is no opportunity for YAC is not real good, either. Didn't like the game that was called, sorry.

Surpised those repetitious ineffective plays didn't cost us a pick 6. I was just waiting for a defender to jump that predictible route.

I wonder why we didn't give the ball to McDowell more

At one point he had 10 carries for 64 yards (that's a 6.4 yard average for those of you that are mathematically challenged), so I don't see why he didn't get 20 carries.

ourselves there for a bit. Just hand the rock off when it seemed to be working so easy. It is allright to take a break from all the other stuff if the running game is working. Why I am not on the coaching staff and stuck here to show off my expertise is baffling to me...

I thought the run game was inconsistent

Rod would go for 10 yards on one play and the next run play we would have 4 NC State guys meeting him in the backfield. I can see where that would make a coach go to the passing game because he can't count on positive yards on every play. If it was 4 or 5 every time I think we would have run it a lot more.

those two times Chad called the deep route but told Tajh to overthrow wide open receivers. Play calling is our major weak point!!! I don't understand why he didn't want us to catch those balls.

We threw the ball down field way less than usual....We turned into a dink and dunk team for 2 quarters last night. The one ball to Sammy and the other to Bryant were the only times we threw the ball deep and it wasn't 3rd and long.

I am not coaching by no means and not sure if the reason but way too many out passes, of course I am biased I hate those reminds me of Spence, but Chad has his reasons

I like the occasional out pass, just to keep people honest...but I feel like we went to it at least 1x every 4 downs.

teams are taking away the deep ball this year to force Tajh to complete check down routes and keep the drive going. We may only get two deep shots a game.

He did good enough to win in a somewhat hostile environment. The throws in the flats were to get Tajh in a rythme and to get the offense flowing. So what it didn't work out sometimes but never doubt Chad, he always has a plan.

I don't like the quick out pattern when they throw it Bryant. He needs to be runnning downfield, he's really not as effective trying to break tackles. Don't mind that call when we throw it to Sammy, or even Humphries.

I 110% agree....I feel like Bryant takes a little longer to get a step than Sammy or Adam......and being as tall as he is, the defender can just wrap up his legs....but glad to see Bryant come up with some big catches......very pumped to see Hopper with some quality catches also.

carries. He was averaging 6.4ypc before one negative play on our last TD drive, and one garbage carry that went for -4 on our final offensive play of the game.
Out of 77 offensive plays, only 26 were RB carries. Boyd carried the ball 13 times (a few were sacks) again, which still worries me over the course of a season. That's an important element for our offense, especially in short yardage and around the goal line, but it would be nice if we could keep that in single digits so he doesn't take such a beating.

That's exactly what I posted last night! I thought cm could've utilized more HB screens over the middle and tight end rollouts. Maybe he was trying to call plays that would not cost us turnovers in a hostile environment? I hope so because our turnover margin was 0. I just would've like to seen more screens in the middle to the HB to take pressure off of a struggling Boyd. There were some pretty good plays called throughout the game, just poorly executed!

It was a poorly called game imo from Morris.

He sometimes gets too cute and doesn't stick with what's working. When your RB is averaging 6 yards a carry and you know that all you have to do is go max protect and your wrs will get open you do it.
I love Morris but he does have a tendency to go away from the run game or make confusing protection calls for Tajh. both of these happened last year against SC and cost us that game.
