Is Clowney the most overrated player of the decade?
Aug 11, 2013, 12:25 AM
|
|
Today, the supposed "tough guy" doesn't want to play football because his shoulder hurts a little bit. The Mich hit is what everything is based off of and I could lay a hit like that if I had been as unblocked by an out to lunch OLman as he was. LSU ran over him like a bulldozer and even our meek little ACC DL was able to smash their running game in the face.

for a defensive player to win it, no offensive player can have a super year and the defensive guy would have to break a record for something or other. (sacks, picks, etc.)

I think clowney will be a Heisman lock if he is able to knock the helmet off two players this year.
last years success was based on knocking one helmet off.

Absolutely Ludicrous!! There is a reason why we wanted and recruited him so much out of High School. Top player in the nation coming out of high school. As a sophomore hes 8 away from tiein their school record for sacks. OMG...he had 4.5 against us in our house himself. And you are calling him overrated. Ever imagine how that makes us look?
Consider yourself fortunate to have seen a real monster play in person. Imagine what could have happen if hew had come here!!

He seems to only play pass rush schemes. Or does he lack stamina to play more downs? Or is a truly a wus?

Kind of a dumb thing to say about the guy who has the individual game sack record in your stadium. A record he set the first time he played there.

Players have great games every now and then. So what if he broke a record? Records are broken all the time. He is good be he ain't all that everybody is making him out to be. He sure as H ell ain't no Heisman candidate.

How many good defensive players have played at DV?
Seems he set the record for most sacks last year and it wasn't even on his home field?
I would say his news coverage is about adequate although I have seen more than I care to about him.

for Notre Dame last season he would have won the Heisman.
And it what world did Clemson "abuse" Clowney? He set the Death Valley sach record last year and his presence on the field basically shutdown the offense after the 1Q because of the lack of belief in being able to block him for sufficient time to allow plays to develop.

A lot of our own Tiger fans will most likely judge the Clown as a coot, and not by his ability to play FB. But before he became a coot, Tiger Nation wanted him to become a Tiger if we could have gotten him into Clemson.

What I'm saying is that Clowney would have been sitting on the sidelines if he was deemed academically ineligible while at Clemson ala Martavis Bryant and the Chick-fil-a bowl. Meanwhile, you have to try and fail at USuC according to some recruits. Spurrier would never hold him out of a game for that. I wouldn't be surprised if Clowney made the Dean's list or something fishy like that.
If he was told you have to put in a lot of effort at Clemson to play vs. you don't have to worry, you'll get your play time at USuC...which do you think Clowney would choose and be honest? Doesn't matter if their academic requirements for ENTRY are the same when they are not the same while their ATTENDING the university. If you think they are, then your kidding yourself.

You do realize Clowney was making these grades throughout his his school career in multiple classes after taking multiple tests.
Some time you have an off day when taking a test. I have before and I graduated ### laude. But I guess 12 min and 50 questions is equivalent to several years of failing...coot logic once again trumps all...

No. He's not. Don't lie to yourself. If Clowney had picked Clemson 3 years ago you'd be jumping for joy to have him in orange and purple. Let's not pretend here. Even though he ended up being a Coot, it would have been incredible to have him on our defense.
Or have you not seen how our defense has been the past few years?

Agreed. The michigan hit has gotten too much publicity and while it was a great show of athleticism it was still a busted assignment by um. Still, all of the people who want to point out the busted assignment seem to want to forget every other play he has made. They also want to overlook that, while he is better against the pass, he has not been a weakness against the run. He may be overhyped but thats because the media has to overhype someone. His play isnt overated though. He is a very good DE who will be the top pick in the NFL draft.

He is not much of a student, but he is an athlete.

He could be the poster child for why we need minor league football. He has no business being in college.
The solution is NOT to pay professional athletes in college. The solution is to get the professional athletes out of college and return college athletics to the true STUDENT-athlete.

Re: Is Clowney the most overrated player of the decade?

The Mich tackle was pretty much by accident. Clowney was not accelerating when the Mich running back ran right in to him. I remember the hardest I ever got hit playing FB was when I ran into the back on one of the lineman that was just standing there. I ran right into his back and I thought I was dead. Yea, seems like I remember LSU having their way with the Gamecocks. The ran and passed on them like they weren't even on the field. Where was the Clown when all that was going on? Oh, yea, lying flat on his back with someone's foot in his belly.

Clowney is a very good player and will go #1 overall in the draft. Thankfully we have some good players too and one player doesn't make a team.
