No, apparently having two power 5 quality RBs is enough according to TNet. We can find our backups at Daniel High School.

There are a lot of DW Daniel graduates out there. Most of us didn’t get an offer from Clemson or anyone else! Quit picking on us…

I have asked more than 5 times 5his season and the common response is who would want to come behind two 4* and one 4*?
That really doesn't makes sense. Good teams carry 4-6 good RBs on the team with one coming in. UGA and Bama always probably two Top 5 RBs on their team at all times. We struggle to have 2 good ones.
After this year with all our rushing yards, we should easily bring in a too 10 RB. We are basically 4yrs away from a top 10RB. We haven't got a top 10 since Shipley in 2020. We don't have a cruit for 2023 so we are hoping for 2024. We have two 3* we are hoping for in 2023.
End of the day, Spiller should not be in charge of recruiting any position. Not sure our RBs sre doing great or not? They fumble a lot of balls.
While I love CJ on the team, I dont think he can recruit and have my doubts about coaching. Only thing I have seen this year with our RBs is they don't lean forward as much thru the hole.
RBs dont block better, dont catch better, bit I think they do hit the hole better!

No b/c the skill set required can be found...

in abundance. Stars do matter most but the position where they matter least is the RB position. Yes, I'd rather have a legit break away threat like Etienne but I am more concerned with the passing game. The evolution of the game continues to flow in one direction w/ heavy emphasis on the passing game. We've been in reverse for the last 2 seasons. Also much of a running backs success is dependent on the OL(see Etienne's Sr year); the NFL continues to devalue the position as it is common knowledge that an adequate replacement for a starting RB can routinely be found in the later rounds and at times straight off the street. The NFL generally follows the trends of CFB.

Its unfortunately that you could not see the difference between ETN ===> our current backs ----> average 3* backs
On a given play, ETN would hit the hole and take it to the house, Shipley would make a nice 10 yard gain and the average back gets tackled near the LOS. To be a top tier team we cannot be one dimensional. So to say the passing game is all that matters is not based on reality. So is thinking we can load up on backs who have no other P5 offers and think our ground game will not suffer. So is assuming either or both Shipley or Mafah will return for their senior year. So is assuming we will not have an injury or two next year like we saw with Pace this year.
Unfortunately too many of the t-net old guard (you know the New Balance wearing shirt tucking crew) are not willing to recognize an issue until they see it on the field then they seem surprised it happened because they are unwilling or unable to project a situation's impact on future sucesss.

ETN literally fell into our lap. We only got him because LSU was full at the position. LSU deemed that the backs they had were better than ETN. I guess a recruiting miss on their part and just lucky on our part. Sometimes better to be lucky than good.

They had a decommit and LSU charged ETN hard!

Thankfully he recognized sincerity and stuck with us. ETN was amazing, he was so good as a freshman that I thought he got lucky. But after few games in his Soph yr, I learned that he could run through arm-tackles better than any RB I had ever seen at his size. There are breaks that Ship has had but a hand on the foot tackled him before a long gain and ETN mafe those look easy. ETN hit the hole faster and stronger than most his size and arm-tackles didn't exist.
If that leg strength is why, then that is what Ship needs to add to his game. Ship gets 4-5 almosts every game and just didn't break that one hand to tackle him. Been better this year, but I would be in ETN ear asking him. Ship is on the verge of being great, just a little more ETN leg strength maybe???

Concerned yes, but this year is not over yet. I don't think that our difficulties last year were overly surprising. If we do not manage to pick somebody up late or through the portal, then my concerns will escalate. Right now I am probably at about a 6 on a scale of 1-10, but it will hit 8 or 9 if we head into spring without more depth than Thomas and Adams.

Different type than Mafah or Ship. Closer to Pace. Compact, supposedly runs tough. Not breakaway speed but not slow.
I think he'll be fine as the guy behind Ship and Mafah next year, but what do I know. Besides, he's not a 4 star, so for some he's never gonna be to their standards.
Plus, he wanted Clemson. I like that in a player

I think the term for your response is gaslighting meaning you want to try and derail the discussion, so you take it to a ludicrously extreme level in an effort to make the other side look out of touch. In case you were not aware, Dabo does a lot of things very well but unfortunately like the rest of us in not perfect.

No, gaslighting is when you intentionally lie and tell someone else they are crazy for their position. It’s really more of a psychological abuse than a logical fallacy.
This is a straw man argument which is where one party changes the parameters of the argument in an attempt to make the other position be wrong by default. The argument being “we have a concerning depth chart at RB” and the response being “Dabo knows what he is doing”. It doesn’t address the conclusion of the argument. An appropriate response would be “Dabo has a record of finding under recruited players that fit our system and I think Adams can be a serviceable back if needed”
They are similar in nature, but essentially different as one is about maliciously lying and the other is about misrepresenting an argument. Another example would be Judge Keller, he’s a prototypical gas lighter, he lies about things with a very specific and malicious agenda to manipulate people on this website.

Maybe, but not panicking.
Dec 8, 2022, 9:15 AM
|

Concerned? Maybe a bit. It is one thing to be concerned - and another to panic.
Maybe you should consider the why? Well, First you have to be open to coming to Clemson for a host of reasons. Geography, family, money, etc. Then, you look at the depth chart. We had 3 very good RBs who were getting the Carries. (One was hurt most of the year). RBs, like other skill players, want to play early. Behind 3, how many Carrie’s are you going to get for a couple of years? Now one leaves, setting off people to be critical. Todays world, players transfer.
Then you have 5 star players like Bowman who has moved to 3rd team and still no Carries.
You now go to the schools we compete with, Ohio state (short list of rb), Bama, etc. the clear anomaly is UGA and they have been getting good rbs for years. Not sure their depth is what it once was, but still solid.
So, who do you think will want to come and get buried?
Now, this clearly is an opportunity for. Jealousy jab by JK. To blame Dabo and CJ. While he is doing the Jealousy Jab Shuffle - and blaming Dabo for such a horrible job - we win the conference, go to the orange bowl, and we’re 7th according to the polls. Ouch, how horrible!
Just because a name has stars does not mean they can play. (Bowman), does not mean they will get into the school, does not mean they want to come to Clemson. Dabo will find the right people.
