1. Shows you the state of college football when a HC at a P5 school takes the OC job at another school in his same conference.

2. His long term goal is to get back into the NFL. He desperately tried for an NFL OC job this year. He's probably thing that after spending one year at Buckeye U he'll get into NFL as OC next year.

But, who woulda thought 3 years ago that any HC at a P5 school would be looking for an OC job at another P5 school. He wasn't fired. He was making good money. He didn't leave for more money. He left because he didn't like being HC in the year 2024.

He is one of 4 HCs that stepped down into an OC job with BCs Hefley the only one migrating to NFL. You are correct that Kelly will be in NFL in 1-2yrs. Add those to the coaches that are retiring like Saban, who I am sure would be coaching today if college football was like 5yrs ago. Saban had just said he planned to coach til 74 just a couple yrs ago but the state of sport is changing for the worse.

UCLA is not really committed to being successful in football and he hates recruiting high school kids. He was basically all portal the last few seasons. I agree he wants back in the NFL. It’s kind of cool that Day was his qb at UNH and now he’s working for him. Circle of life and all that.

Kelly was innovative at one time. Was not cut out to be an NFL coach with a college offense mindset. What worked at Oregon did not translate. By the time he got back to college, his offense wasn't unique anymore. The game has passed him by. It's a splash hire, but not a good one in my opinion

I doubt the game has passed him by, Chip is one of the smartest football minds around. Granted, I'm not sure he is the best head coach out there, but when it comes to running an offense and making changes on the fly during a game, he's one of the best.

My opinion is that he's not a great recruiter and he has a bit of a prickly personality that doesn't endear him to a lot of people.

...the Bucks have a head coach in waiting if they fire Coach Day.

Oregon, Michigan, Penn State, and maybe Washington are all potential BIG champs this year.
