Do you all tip when you pick up to go orders?

I think it has become an expected thing for most restaurants. I used to not tip for to go orders, but lately I have been because I feel pressured into doing it.

They say that the wait staff are the ones packing the food up and such thus impacting their availability with the real customers, so a small tip is probably the right thing to do.

out of waiting tables, and do fine. Most don't. I probably worked for tips more recently than anyone else in here. I can say that the difference in a $5.00 tip vs $3.00 is somehow more than $2.00. I can't explain it though.

And no, I don't tip when I pick it up. I just spent several dollars in gas/time picking it up because their delivery zone is so small. And I don't think they expect one.

I'm curious......other than pizza, what else do you people order "to-go"? Pizza is the only thing that has a significant waiting time that I know of. If I'm getting a sub or Chinese or barbecue or Popeyes chicken, I'm just going to the place, ordering there, and waiting the 5-10 minutes to get it.

Pro-Tip, you don't have to call in a BBQ order 6 hours before you pick it up.

You can literally call on the way to the restaurant. That is the amazing thing about restaurants, they are setup to cook the food you order, when you order it, so you don't have to send them an order prior to them seasoning the uncooked Pork Butts.

I know tip share is split up different ways, depending on the restaurant, but cooks and chefs should not be dependent upon tips, and generally, a server who merely hands you the food and/or rings it up does not deserve a big tip.

Definitely not. I thought you were talking about the server at the restaurant at a table. They do a lot. I usually get my to go orders from a hostess or something like that. The hostess even gets more per hour than the server. They usually don't think about tips as much though.

I tip solid with servers at the table. Getting a bag to go, I might leave a 5 on 70. I wing it more on that one. It's usually just a hostess or a manager or someone. Maybe a bartender? 5 bucks on a 70 will be fine. The servers are usually serving their tables and I don't see them when I get food to go.

Exactly. When I was younger I was a bus boy, a server, and later a bartender. I was also a golf caddie. I tip fair, but I don't go overboard. I definitely make sure to tip. Although, one time I went into Carolinas when I was maybe 24 and a little more wild. It was New Year's Eve. It was maybe 5pm and they were getting ready for the night. All the tables were reserved, but they gave us a table for 2 next to the kitchen because we said we would be fast. We left the waitress a 300 dollar tip and we were out of there by maybe 6pm. The place was empty and they were still getting prepared for the night. Our waitress was already starting off with 300. You could tell she was a lower level waitress and a little nervous. We looked poor and we're wearing gym clothes. We were young though. I don't throw around money now.
