in 1957 to see our Orange Bowl loss to Colorado. Now that I have your attention, my question is: “Why do athletes, and a lot of my friends wear shades (my generation still calls them sun glasses) at night…especially when they are indoors.” Looking for a woke explanation.

Eyeblob sensitivity to bright lights would be a guess. Those indoor lights can be very bright.

Since even fluorescent lights can have a dimmer switch especially if installed during construction phase.

When traveling at night I will definitely forgo stopping at a Waffle or Huddle House since they look like a glowing space ship while McD and others are over lit too.

protect eyes with cataracts.

I've been seen a lot of times wearing mine at night. Especially at Clemson games.

Hope this helped.

Well, I'm an 85 yr old alum and I rode down to Miami in a 1940 Plymouth sedan with 4 friends/classmates in 1957 to see the tigers lose to Colorado and I wear shades often to cut down painful glare. Hope that helps.

Could be a medical issue as others have described. Could be a fashion choice or trying to look cool. Could be they partook in the burning of the devils lettuce and are trying to hide it.
