Question for New Spring bashers
Nov 2, 2013, 8:10 PM

Why does a church you have nothing to do with cause you grief? Does it cost you money or time? I've never understood why people care about something they have no ties to please enlighten me.

Why does the opinion of others matter to you?

People must have ties to something, or give money or time, to have an opinion?

I think many have concerns about a cult of personality

surrounding a single person. Think it's a larger apprehension to mega-churches in general. With New Spring in general it's a concern about the influence on Clemson and it's students and athletes.

Personally I don't care, but...

It does concern me that someone who is running multi-million dollar churches is given the position as offical team chaplain. I understand that many of the players go to the church, and that is great, but it does lead to questions/concerns. What qualifications and training does he actually have? I (like most people) know and have know multiple chaplains. They have a lot of training and education in dealing with the people that they serve. My understanding of Perry Noble is that he's just a guy who declared himself a minister. It's definitely cause for concern.

I believe most who bash religion...

Christianity especially is because they feel it has failed them, when it is they who have failed their religion. Pretty simple. Or they feel their denomination or belief's are somehow superior to someone else's.

Two problems I have....
Nov 2, 2013, 9:26 PM

|
1) seem like the cult of personality
2) it diminishes the identity of the local church

This post is sort of a good example...

But here are the main three.
1) Veneration of Perry Noble, who himself appears very often to be a vainglorious, money-grubbing, ostentatious doosh-B. Aside from the fact that he somehow turns nearly every Sermon (including the ones that are ironically supposed to be self-deprecating and humble) about HIM, why does every single campus have to stream Perry? All these thousands of people gathered together... to watch a big TV of their supreme leader. Not creepy at all to you?
2) The cult-like ostracization of those who either don't like or don't attend Newspring. I have heard, on no fewer than two dozen occasions, Newspringers tell, either face to face or via Social media, that if they didn't like Perry or Newspring they were either not Christians are somehow questionable Christians.
3) The focus on money. See the "cash back guarantee tithing" deal that ole Perr-Bear has announced. Long story short is that Newpring is a multi-million dollar tax-free corporation.
