Question about Prep School
Jul 1, 2012, 11:26 PM
|
|
You see some kids going to prep school because they failed to qualify like Josh Brown and Cordrea Tankersley and guys like Isaiah Battle and Kevin Dodd came in this year as prep school guys. How does this work? When they finish their year of prep school are they essentially reopening their recruitment or are they still "signed" to the school the signed with on NSD? Basically, does this year of prep school act like a year in the minor leagues, where they are just trying to boost their grades and polish their games?

But I'm no expert, so don't take my word for it.

I think the biggest difference between prep and JUCO

is you dont lose any eligibility at prep school, since its more of like a "preparing for college" school, instead of a junior college (JUCO) I dont believe prep students reopen their recruitment.
To your last question, yes, but i wouldnt compare it to the minor leagues, because if it worked like that, you would really want all your recruits to go to prep school, its more of to get your grades up than your skills. (I mean, unless the recruits are working with private instructors, I wouldnt imagine their would be many great coaches in the prep school ranks)

Their recruitment is opened back up. I'm pretty sure of that part.

I think most schools just stay away from prep recruiting right? I dont hear of many recruits being stolen away from prep schools.

That's a good question. I have no clue. I don't assume that all prep school players have committed to a school before though. I don't know.

Their recruitment is opened back up, but Dabo makes sure that he tells kids, since we are sending you here you are still a Tiger. At Hargrave the coaches do there best to make sure the kids aren't exposed to others from the outside. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

If they choose to go the prep school route, their recruitment is not re-opened. They are merely improving their grades for a year while playing football in order to attend the school they committed to the following year. When they enter Clemson they will be Freshmen. Now, say they chose to go the JUCO route, their recruitment would re-open and attending Clemson would not be guaranteed. At least that's my understanding. If I'm mistaken, feel free to correct me.

Lesean McCoy originally committed to Miami, but had to go to prep school. After prep he committed to Pitt. I just looked that up.

if you sign and do not qaulify then the school is no longer

Obligated to that recruit. A school like clemson however has stayed with kids through the process as long as possible. We have signed guys out of prep school that other schools have given up on notably Jacoby Ford. Some kids may show out at top notch prep schools like hargrave and get offers they end up taking.
