Pushing the business of football past it's limits

is a bit like a runner running a race. Anyone that has run competitively knows that there are limits when running a marathon. You settle into a sustainable pace and hold it there. If you push to hard for too long its over. While I am a very conservative capitalist there is a limit to how much you can attempt to milk out of a market until you risk wrecking your business. I am a Toyota guy. I really like the product Toyota puts out. However, at one point you could not have dragged me into the Toyota of Greer dealership to buy a Toyota with a team of horses. Why? Because Toyota of Greer in its effort to milk every last ounce of sales they could had an advertisement that played on just about every radio station they could find every 3-5 minutes or so with a very irritating guy that would exclaim "Toyota of Greer!" at the end of every radio spot. Some of you know exactly what advertisement that was. It was so obnoxious that they actually drove BOTH buyers and radio station listeners away.
To me this is exactly what NIL athletes, sports television, conferences, colleges, game manufacturers, fan product manufacturers, ect, are doing to college football with all their money grubbing. There is such a frenzy to make more and more money from the fan base that it is becoming obnoxious to the point of driving both the fans and the money they spend away. In the end its going to look like a divorce between two people who are fighting over their Beanie Baby collection.
Student athletes are just the latest obnoxiousness. In the end do they realize that this is likely to push the price of tickets to the completely insane level? The average per person cost to attend a game for 2023 for the Clemson Tigers was $382. They should have just stayed in their lane and run at a reasonable pace it going to get to the point where only the excessively wealthy can attend a simple football game. For me I am still here, but it will reach a breaking point. It did for me with the NBA and the NFL. Eventually college football will get there too if they don't smarten up.

You are confusing your false equivalence

...with your false dilemma.
Greer Toyota has many local competitors. It is a single, local business entity. College football is a nationwide industry. It out monolithic.
False Dilemma, because college football has milked the dollar tree for decades. The schools, many coaches, and the NCAA have gotten rich by exploiting unpaid athletes' first decades. Now that there's may finally get a little money fir their labor, it's panic stations from the people that long for the good old exploitation days.
I'm not buying it.
There may be market adjustments in NIL, but that us a separate issue.
Given the huge amount of TV money involved, the amount being talked about for the athletes is a drop in the bucket.

Decisions are made at the margin.
As for "1", we shall see how it goes. I think more along the lines of the OP...I've had it, for the most part. I know defenders of the new normal will dismiss that by saying "Yeah, but here you are on Tigernet", to which I would say that Tigernet participation may not be the barometer of college football fandom that you think it is. I've progressed from "rabid season ticket holder, recruiting follower and broad college football fan" to a guy who probably watches about 75% of 75% of our games if they are televised.
As for 2, that's where the OP and I differ from you...you're all-in. That's great. But if college football fandom is a bell curve, there's certainly a chunk to the one side that are throwing in the towel. Are they picking up a chunk of fans to offset? I don't see how...but maybe there were a lot of people ready to support college football if they would just treat players like employees, and they could be free agents.
Like I said, we shall see where it all goes. I'm happy for you that you're still enjoying it (or perhaps enjoying it more).

these players what they are, employees. Be honest about the new model you money men have created instead of trying to deceive fans into believing these are just regular college students like always! They clearly aren't.

You sound like a whiney liberal snowflake every single time you post it. Its nonsense. Period. These amateur kids made well over 6 figures a year BEFORE nil. They were all much better off than the average student on campus.

The way I see it is that these kids put their bodies and health on the line for our entertainment. College football makes billions of dollars every year, some of these kids never make it in the pros. They deserve to get money for laying it on the line for our entertainment every weekend. A college degree doesn't cut it anymore. #### most of them don't mean anything to future employers anyway, its just another box to check on a job application.
Yes, ticket prices are absurd. But that's a larger issue nationwide, as many of the real fans can barely afford to go to any professional sporting events or concerts anymore. But it's also a product of Clemson's success. As we got better at football, our baseline costs increased for the team due to increased travel/better equipment/ more staff etc.
I don't get the side rant of the Greer Toyota. A simple marketing course will tell you that you have to advertise on par with your competitors, or else you risk losing sales. So maybe thats the only commercial that stands out to you, but I'd be willing to bet Kia of Greer (or whoever) has just as many commericals.

Which sport do you like to watch & why? Football?

Because of: Hitting? Watch hockey. Playmakers? Hands down hockey. Defense? Hockey. Excitement? Hockey can score in a second. Teamwork? Hockey. Athleticism? Hockey (6'5" guys on skates!) Sportsmanship? Undeniably hockey.
I implore you to watch hockey (especially during the playoffs) and watch the two teams after a final game. They line-up and shake hands. And this is just after 2 opposing players were sent to the penalty box because of fighting!
You'll see some fights, but there're rules in fighting. For instance, once you get your opponent down to the ice, you stop fighting. It's respect for the game.
