For those that don't have a protractor handy, The ® is usually rotated correctly so just make sure the "R" is level and you've got it!

Not on the new merchandise. Now the R sits right when the paw is not rotated at all.
Drives me crazy when I see the paw improperly positioned.

I always look at the defect in the paw and make it close to vertical. It's not perfect, but it's close.
