I’m watching this Pro Bowl game with my Mom tonight. She has dementia and can’t follow a lot of the shows she likes to watch. She saw this game and wanted to watch it. She’s really excited about all the touchdowns being scored.
She’s never liked watching football on TV before but tonight she’s all about it! God’s Blessings 🙏🏻

Since my late Mom with Dementia/Alz became different in interesting ways too..

In that she never liked animals but in her last year she mellowed out and could be seen with a cat in her lap and stroking its head.

Enjoy her as is!

Saying, took mine out for a DQ treat once a week, would pull over near the water’s edge and listen to her read what’s on a sign like a proud school kid..

Or sadly hear her ask me when we returned if she had money in the bank for her $50K nursing home room or clothes to wear.

Geez, I miss her (RuRu) but what fun and a life learning curve in a different way where I realized that I was the grown-up and she was my child who needed my help, attention & love..the same that she had given me for 20..no, 67 years.

PS: I gave her a bunch of flowers in a vase each week of her last year and boy did she glow & smile.

Good morning, Thanks for sharing this with me. My Mom has adopted the neighborhood cat. Makes sure that he’s fed and has a place to sleep, but never inside.Mom loves to get “our” hair done on Friday with a chicken salad sandwich afterwards. And on Sunday, church service on TV. Sings every song. I enjoy listening to her, but then she she may not remember that I was even there.
You are so right. Enjoy her while she’s still here!

Good for you. Enjoy those moments of lucidity. They'll get further and further apart. Make the most of it. We lost precious time with my wife's mom because of those stupid Covid lockdowns. By the time we could see her again she had forgotten all of us.

I work with dementia and other seniors daily. no matter how far gone someone may be, there are usually a few things that can pep them up. I had a guy who never talked but would sing along with the Marshall Tucker band and light up with other southern rock bands
