you make no oiffer until you have a clear understanding of what he's thinking. candidly i'm stunned with the lack of understanding here on how to negotiate a deal favorable to BOTH parties. Things like what he likes about Clemson, what he doesn't like, how long of a term is he thinking about, etc. etc.
