Serious Question (NOT FOOTBALL RELATED)

Does anyone have any knowledge or personal experience with Grade 4 Esophagitis? I was diagnosed a year ago with it but never took the PPI medication because I've heard so much bad about it. I finally reached a point to where the pain was radiating to my back and shoulders, so I finally went and picked up a prescription. Any idea on how long before I begin to notice results from these meds and what can I expect as far as side effects are concerned?
Thanks for any input anyone cares to share.

Several years ago I had a similar problem and i would choke when I swallowed certain foods. I went to a gastro Doc and he went down my throat (sedated of course) and stretched my esophagus and put me on Nexium.I haven't had a problem since.Get well!!!

PPI... you mean like Omeprazole & Pantoprazole, or something else?

I've taken one or the other for months now. In the last year I've had bleeding esophageal ulcers, pancreatitis, UTIs. Also now taking Sucralfate, had blood in my urine and was throwing up blood a couple weeks ago. Possibly related to prostate cancer radiation treatments and immunotherapy, or alcoholism, or both. I'd say the only side effects I've noticed with any of those meds are maybe slight nausea or diarrhea.

I have been taking PPI’s for 20-25 years, maybe 30. First, there was Prilosec and now Pantonix. I haven’t really noticed any side effects and they do a pretty good job with acid reflux. Long term use can cause stomach polyps. But not taking them for chronic acid reflux also carries risks.
Prayers for your recovery and decision about taking them.
