Portal = “Everybody Gets a Trophy” Mentality

If things don’t go your way in life what do you do? You tough it out and see what changes you can make so you can succeed. You adapt and you try harder, work longer, study more, practice harder.
Right?
Well, for all of the quitters out there - for all of those who didn’t get what they wanted - for those that gave up too soon… there is The Portal!!
Yes, you can start over, just like in the real world if things didn’t go your way. Forget about trying harder, or waiting your turn. Forget about paying your dues. It’s easy!!!
The portal is for quitters. Oh, wait - there are only 3,085 players in the portal so you shouldn’t have any more problems.
And when football does not work out, and you are in the real world, what will you do?
The portal gives false hope to the vast majority of players; it is a useful venue for a player that really needs to transfer. But for the rest - it’s false hope.
The grass is always greener on the other side.

There are a few that blossomed at lower tier schools, want to try to land at a top tier program. But these are few and far between.

That definitely applies to a lot of portal entries, but not all. Jordan Addison, Jamir Gibbs, etc. They are ballers. I wish Dabo would cherry pick a few guys like that to augment the roster.

The portal is for quitters?! You clearly have never met or know any student athletes in any college sport on a personal level. People have different life situations you know nothing about and are just trying to do what is in their best interests as human beings not objects of your entertainment

If a kid wants to try the portal... let them. If a kid can get millions in NIL money... let them.
Age gives you wisdom. Wisdom comes from experience. Experience comes from making mistakes.
I think Dabo is right a heck of a lot more than he is wrong. His program is built on serving a player's heart, not their talent. Making them a better man when they leave with a degree than the young man they were when they walked in.
Clemson is not for everybody. The reason we offer so few and only offer after the recruit pays their own way to campus is to weed people out that don't fit our culture. If you bring up NIL money right away... not a fit.
I like the way Dabo runs it. He will adapt, but he will never compromise on his core values and beliefs about the culture in that building.
And that matters a heck of a lot more than winning. The fact he is winning at the highest level shows his formula for success works. I have a strange feeling that the majority of kids who left for more PT or more money will be back in a few years and will tell Dabo they wished they listened to him.

Some of you act like you've never changed jobs before. The portal is capitalism at it's best - taking your talents and value to the place where you can maximize your return. Should a talented WR stay at a wishbone school? What if your position coach, who recruited you and designed plays for you, leaves the program? What about the head coach leaving? What if your parent got cancer, god forbid, and you're stuck playing football 1,000 miles away? Let the kids be free agents like the coaches, receiving compensation for their talents - cash and tuition - while we all watch the TV broadcasts, place our bets, drink our beers, and the schools get millions of dollars.
