Feeling slightly reserved on this one. Doesn’t feel as flashy as picking up Garrett Riley, but not many things do.
Tom Allen is a lesser known name but he has a history of marked improvement at every stop he has made in high school all the way to big time D1 football. His resurrection of the USF defense, while in the American, was the biggest turnaround in the country. If he makes a similar in-house improvement with our defense, we will be racking up the hardware.
Hoping this one gets much sweeter with time!

No one can know if this is a home run hire at this point. Seems really good on paper but check back in 2-3 years for an answer.

Our defense stunk in Brent's 1st season. You could see significant progress in 2013, but it wasn't until 2014 in his 3rd season that we had a vintage Venables defense.
Hopefully this rebuild won't take as long, but it's still worth pointing out that some patience may be required.

Love the hire more than Jim Leonard . I feel like he will bring toughness as well as put his best players in a position to succeed.

Excellent hire. Homerun would have been Jim Leonard in my opinion, but we have to manage our expectations. I’m sure we would all love a Venables type of hire but that isn’t realistic most years. JL will have NFL opportunities and won’t want to leave for a college gig. So who else is out there? Tom Allen should be an improvement from WG. If he can consistently field a top 10 defense and Riley can continue making improvements on the offensive side, Clemson will be right back in the hunt. Even a slightly better defense this year could have led to a deep playoff run. We aren’t far off

He’s a great fit to improve what we have lacked: aggressive blitz-heavy approach, stout against the run. Also a linebacker coach. His weakest point is the DBs and we have a great DB coach in Mike Reed

We got exactly what we asked for. Experienced coach from a power five school. Not sure how anyone could be dissatisfied with this hire. All he really needs to do is figure out our run defense, and this could be another playoff team next year. If Guess Goodwin would’ve stayed on board, we may have had the worst rush defense in the nation next year

Any experienced coach would be better than the one we had the last few years. I always liked Saban's approach of hiring experienced coaches, many of which had prior HC experience - there is so much more they are aware of on a weekly basis, not just x's and o's, but overall game planning, recruiting, donor satisfaction, etc. Tom Allen also seems to share some of the core principles that fit the model of the program Dabo has built. I vote to give him time and an opportunity.
