hundreds of Olympic spots and some athletes who have had offers rescinded and/or were cut are mobilizing to file some course of action. It's a Yahoo Sports article.

The article says about 3000 spots, I will call them kids or young adults with dreams they have been working hard for.
The article says an estimated 3000 and then goes on to estimate 1500 walk-ons (almost all football). That leaves 1500 non walk-ons. Thats just this year, and until things change its another up to 1500 every year after that which will not be afforded the opportunity that existed last year.
Even if "mostly" means 1501 non scholarship kids and 1499 scholarship kids, I don't think thats a good thing. There are undoubtly kids in that group where it was the only way they could go to college or will have to attend a lower tier school because of it. For them I feel bad

A lower tier school is still going to college. That's very different than not being able to attend.
It's also a life lesson in choices. If you want to be successful, choose something that gives you the best chance of being successful, regardless of where you go to get it, or how you accomplish it.

If you read what I wrote, I clearly used the word OR. So there will be both kids who dreams are dashed at the last second and need to find another school, kids who wont be able to attend at all and kids whose athletic career is over.
All of those things are very unfortunate and certainly not an intended consequence when this ball got rolling years ago. Lets note none of this is of their choosing.

There are hundred of thousands of kids in this same situation every year who don’t play sports. The answer is a two year degree at a local community school while working part time and living at home. Then find a job at a company who offers educational benefits and finish the BS at night with zero debt. This is especially true for kids who accumulate a mountain of debt for a degree which leads to a low paying job.
Most kids who play Olympic sports come from middle class and above backgrounds. Low income kids can’t afford trainers and travel ball.

There will always be the haves and the have nots. That is the reality of life. Some things just are not in your cards. A college degree is not required to be successful in life in whatever definition that means to you. It can be accomplished without a degree.

Everyone was so focused on football & basketball, that they forgot about the Olympic/non-revenue sports & the downstream effects on them.
I posted in the Amphitheater board a couple weeks ago about Campbell wrestling's plight where their most successful program is getting gutted as result of the House settlement & conference realignment. Honestly, that's about to start happening at alot of schools, big & small.
Don't be surprised if you start seeing a downturn for America in Olympic sports (since college athletics have been a huge part of developing athletes who go on to compete at the international level for USA)

I think it's more a case of not caring.
I like to see Clemson be successful in whatever sports happens to be going on, but I really don't care much about any sport but football.
With few exceptions, I don't care much about Olympic sports even during the Olympic games. I suspect that I'm not the only one.

There are many thousands of student athletes who compete around the country in many sports. Also it's good for youth sports around the country as they strive for college scholarships for their efforts.

I didn't say it's about me. I said that I don't care about non revenue sports. That still makes it about the non revenue sports participants, but there's no obligation for anyone else to have an emotional stake in it.

Same thing happened in the 90's when Title IX was passed. Entire scholarship sports programs were scrapped so the schools could add scholarship women's competitive twerking etc. I knew some wrestlers at Clemson who got royally buggered by that and lost their scholarships.

Knew this was coming. Schools can't fund these non-revenue sports and pay the athletes. Schools will be dropping non-revenue sports first, then likely limit the number of players to lower than NCAA limits allow just to manage their funding. In these cases, teams wont be development schools and let players ride the bench 2-3yrs before they play. Schools will be chasing portal players to rent for a year.

Use strategy and tactics to win.
Prepare for the competition physically and mentally.
Try to take territory from the other side.
Attack on the ground and in the air.
Wear body armor and helmets for protection.
Have a secret code method to give instructions to your team while concealing the content from the enemy.
...for starters.

I think the thought was that the additional players would help the coaches manage their roster since so many kids are transferring therefore having more on roster to play. Plus they wanted to stop walk-ons that could be funded by NIL and not crunch the roster numbers. So I think it was a decent move but I hope Dabo actually fills roster with star-rated kids and not a bunch of local boys who wouldn't make it as a Walk-on at Furman.

They are leeches.. let them pay to play. All female athletes and most male athletes are leeches. If their sport went away nobody would know nor care.
For example, who notices or cares that CU doesn't have a wrestling team? Exactly nobody.

Just like a lot of iptay donations are supposed to go to all of the sports, not just football. To act like college athletics departments should be treated as a 100% for profit business misses the point they were created for entirely.
There's still the community benefit to having sports at the high school and college level that merit the tax money they receive. I'd argue it's one of the many things that makes America a great country to raise a child in. This used to be universally accepted until this ultra-individualistic mindset started squeezing it's grip about 10 years ago.

That's like exactly how you're acting though.
Your opinion seemingly boils down to is the sport isn't generating revenue for the athletic department then good riddance which imo is a pretty shortsighted, individualistic, unemphatic view.
That has nothing to do with football becoming bigger business than ever.
