Offense simply did not run correctly, nor efficiently, without him. That was the difference in the last two games. Offensively we were lost without his direction. Huge loss

long shot. We don't depend on any one player. We had lots of guys who were capable of stepping up as needed. None of them did over the last few games. Therefore, while having Dillon wouldn't have hurt, I'm in no way suggesting he alone would have made the difference in the final result.

Lakhin, Wiggins, Zackery, Jones, Heidbreder, and D. Hunter stepping up at key times. Yes, Chase, Scheff, and Lakhin were our go-tos, but we had other guys who did step up when those had an off game. We weren't totally reliant upon one or two guys.
Against Kentucky, our top 3 did okay, but we wouldn't have won without Wiggins and Zackery stepping up.
Heidbreder had a big game against Wake. Wiggins and Zackery had big games against Stanford. Zackery, Wiggins, and D Hunter all played significant roles against PITT. Zackery was key against Duke and UNC. Wiggins hit some big shots against UNC.
Chase, Schef, and Lakhin were our "big 3" if you will, but Zackery was steady and strong all year as well. Wiggins, Heidbreder, and D Hunter were not steady leaders or scorers, but were definitely capable of stepping up at times, and they did. Bottom line, we were far from a 1 or 2-man team, and the drop-off was usually manageble when we had to sub or rotate players in and out.

a roster of experienced players performed like green kids and panicked. They spent most of the game screwing around jacking up threes and tried to pull a rabbit from the hat with too little too late. Losing is one thing but playing scared and doing stupid stuff is another most of the game is another. that is on the guys who could play and should know better.

I told several folks the fact that we even accepted a bid to the NCAA’s while missing a guy who contributed so greatly to our success is mind boggling. McNeese St. isn’t a team you go up against with your most important player out.
Would be the equivalent of Dabo accepting a college football playoff bid in 2018 missing Dexter Lawrence. Who would do that?

We have been inept in offense since the Duke game even with him , him being out was not the only problem . Being unprepared and shocked as Chase Hunter said is very telling but the apologists are ignoring what was said by Hunter and Scheff after game

Not true. Dillon had nothing to do with missed 3's, missed layups, insanely poor passing and not boxing out on rebounding. Using him as an excuse is lame.

And while this didn’t help, our end of year slump started in the second half of the BC game, we looked out of sorts the entire SMU game, even before he got hurt. This collapse was happening with or without Hunter, we were playing poorly with him.

Dillon Hunter is a great player, I think he would’ve been the key to a good run in the tournament. But I do not think that he is the difference between winning a game, and only scoring 13 points in a half

So you don’t feel his absence was meaningful at all? His absence was the biggest difference in the last two games vs the games since the Duke win.
Dillon grew so much this year. Looking forward to his play next year.
Injuries happen in every sport. Look at Baseball last year and how the injuries hurt us down the stretch. You can’t recognize last year’s baseball injuries and then turnaround and ignore Dillon’s.
But I get folks’ narrative. It’s predictable.

Dillon is one of the best defenders and point guards in the ACC. That being said, just make some wide open 3s and we would be singing a different tune. It’s that simple.

We run the motion offense still, correct? Without D. Hunter at point you see an awful lot of standing around by the other 4. I think Dillon understands the concept better. The concept requires strong chemistry by all 5 on the court to get into synch. We just didn’t see enough of that down the stretch. Perhaps fatigue and injury contributed to the slower motion and standing around waiting for someone else to move.

Agreed - Dillon's loss was the total key. I was thinking if they had a couple of games to play without him before the playoffs it would have certainly been better. They are a true team and were missing their floor leader. Look at the games: They struggled to get past an SMU team they should have dominated. They got seriously behind Louis and McN to make a good comeback in each. I think they would have figured it out with some more games. When Dillon became the third guard in the lineup (instead of 3 big men) this team became consistent and dominant. Just bad timing & luck - something we seem to get plenty of in Clemson hoops.
