Pay for play in college sports - David Hood

There have been multiple recent court cases on this subject. Some clarity is forming with these court cases as to how pay for play is going to work.

I would be really interested in reading an article from the staff at TigerNet as how the court cases pertain to Clemson. And the future of Clemson football.

Good question. I’m not sure if Clemson AD has announced publicly how much they plan to support towards the maximum revenue share amount (somewhere around $21 million). Also not certain if Clemson plans to support 100% scholarships up to the new roster limits. Perhaps plans for football have been discussed? The House settlement is still working towards court approval, so maybe Neff is waiting until it’s finalized to discuss Clemson’s plans. Of course the decision directly impacts what IPTAY would have to provide to cover scholarships, so that means it will roll down to IPTAY donations.

Question for you. If you are a really talented 3 star kid with the potential for the NFL with the right training, would you go a school with say the 99th scholarship but no chance of seeing the field or go to another school with the 68th scholarship with a chance to play and be noticed by scouts? No brainer because the stupid increase in scholarships is a dead end for players.

Stick to your principles and never watch a college sporting event, ever again.
...especially football.

Hmm, I agree with you to an extent. There is certainly more money that the top 10-20% of college players never saw that they should have, but most everyone else gets an opportunity for a free education that costs 10s of thousands of dollars that they would, in most cases, never have had the opportunity to get if it were not for their athletic abilities.
