The worst I can remember was when Spurrier was coaching Duke and they intercepted us and the Clemson home student section threw miniature plastic footballs at the Duke player running for a touchdown. My guess that was 1979.

Maybe we need to start. We need all the help we can get to distract a defense!

To go around. Most of the objects (water bottles and cups) were mainly directed at the refs).

Danny Ford's second year, and it was not pretty. Duke beat the Tigers in the Valley about mid season, 34-17 or so. Before the game, fans were distributed those tiny little plastic footballs. Some sort of advertising deal, I'm sure. Late in the game, Duke returned an interception for a touchdown, right by the student section, and several tiny little footballs went sailing field-ward toward the villainous intercepter. I am pretty sure I remember seeing, on replay, one of those footballs clanging off the player's helmet. Heckuva throw.

I was sitting on the hill in 1988 for the FSU game. When Deion Sanders ran back that punt, a bunch of stuff was thrown at him. Mostly cups, as I recall, but also glass bottles and a whole lot of ice, all coming from the hill and the student section.
You can see in this video at least 2 cups but then the camera goes in so tight, you can’t see the rest that was thrown at him.

Oranges BEFORE the coot game the year Navy

ended their perfect season the week before our game, That ended their plans for the Orange Bowl so we were just reminding them. I saw Carolina players pick the oranges up and throw them back into the student sections as hard as their steroid- strengthened arms could sling them. Sadly we lost the game to them.
