Plyler's Blog: Who Would You Rather Have?

Who Would You Rather Have?

Who Would You Rather Have?
I was at dinner Saturday night and brought up an interesting conversation among some Clemson fans.

I asked the question, who is the greatest college quarterback in the history of the game? Responses included Tim Tebow, Joe Montana, Vince Young, Cam Newton and

I hope for 2 with at least on Heisman and and a NC to go with it!
If he wins the heisman and we win a NC or 2 then it will only be 2 years........

He mother told him gettin an education was the main reason she wanted him to come to Clemson. So I think he does what Tajh and CJ both did and stay all four years. He hasn't redshirted so it won't be 5 years.

NCSU replay this weekend for the first time and I was amazed (again) with the play of number 4. That kid 'has it' and if he stays healthy, this will be another super year. Obviously the OL will need to improve during the off season but everything else seems to be in place.

I can't believe we let that FSU game get away from us last year. How did we let that backup QB beat us??? College football is a great game. GO TIGERS

DW is an extremely good player, but he's gotta stay healthy

Apr 21, 2015, 8:21 AM

all that talent means nothing when you're on the sidelines injured. Whether its just been bad luck or whatever, he's got to learn to take care of his body on the field. dont play scared, but play smart.

That was our backup qBs first real game

Apr 27, 2015, 10:52 AM [ in reply to I watched the ]

As well. We all act like DW was our tenured starter but that was his first time playing at a high level for more than just a series. So it was our backup against their backup. He eventually left no doubt as to who our starter would be going forward to do as well as he did as a 18 year old against their defense of nfl talent and to see where FSUs red shirt sophomore QB was in his development was a huge refreshing gap.
A greeny taking the number 1 team to the mat and beating them was great to see. Now if everyone else would have been better then we would've seen our tigers in the playoff or very close to it

Hopefully that plays out this year. We will see.

I think it will take him 3 more years to get his degree

Apr 20, 2015, 6:46 PM [ in reply to A side debate - Does he stay two or three more years?*** ]

He is way too smart not to finish his degree.

Deshawn Watson is really smart man on and off the field. It honestly wouldn't surpise me if he got his degree early

I Honestly think that would be the only way DW leaves early, and that's if he gets his degree early. I don't think he leaves before getting his degree.

Of all college QB's, I'd probably pick Tebow

Apr 21, 2015, 8:20 AM

He was a class act and a winner. His QB skills dont translate to the NFL, but in college he was good enough at throwing to get the job done. Plus he was tough as nails and his teammates played hard for him.

By the time DW is done here, he may change my mind, but right now its Tebow. Pure winner.

number 4

is one of 45 Clemson jocks who earned a 4.o last semester!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mickey - give me No. 4 with some concern

Apr 21, 2015, 7:05 PM

The whole state of the Clemson football program is on the back of Deshaun Watson. He cannot get hurt. The coaches and team need him and the bar is the natl championship this year or next. The expectations in Tiger Town are higher than they have been since Hatfield blew it with Ford's retuning personnel.

The good news is the natl media has not yet bought in. In ESPN's mind, all three Ohio St. QB's are better than 95% of college starters and all the publicity is right now in Columbus, OH. My belief is if this hypothesis is true, the 95% does not include D-Wat.

If Watson performs to his own expectations, there will be a coming out party for our team, our coaches and our fans that has not been seen in Tigertown since ... you guessed it ... the Ford years.

How lucky is OSU?? To have three heisman caliber QBs?!

Apr 22, 2015, 6:41 AM

that's insane. Also speaks to good coaching and a good system.

I love that we have DW, if only for 2 more years. But to answer the question - I'd go with Cam Newton, but with is final year experience and play-making ability. Cam kept any drive alive that needed 2-3 yards. That's uncanny IMO.

That being said - overall, I'd just stick with DW and hope he stays healthy.

Cam Newton's ability with Tim Tebeo's character.
