Did I do that right? was that a legit MOT answer?

Taccers?

They are all leaving

Dec 3, 2021, 3:25 PM

soon it will be coaches sons vs male cheerleaders.
winner gets to slide down the big slide

Re: They are all leaving

Dec 3, 2021, 3:52 PM

Unfortunately it seemed like Ladson was injured more than healthy when we needed him.

If he was healthy he would have started a bunch of games ahead of coaches kids.
What a dumb comment. Jake Venables gave 100% and got broken up playing for Clemson.
How many fumbles did you ever see from Will Swinney as a holder or receiver?
They showed up for every game and played when and where they were asked.

Ladson's career was a disappointment at Clemson, so moving on may help the young man.
I hope he can go to South Florida and stay healthy and have a great career.

You expect a coach to send his kids to Columbia?
We have plenty of spots to have a few coaches kids on the team.

Remember, all SIX (6) quarterbacks on the roster before Trevor showed up eventually transferred.
There were some good ones, but I can't think of one of them that should have started in front of Trevor.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

what a stupid reply

Dec 3, 2021, 4:12 PM

your attempt to call out someone who simply made a joke is only eclipsed by your poor reading comprehension. I have no problems with coaches children playing sports. The fact that I have to say that say's more about your ignorant nature than it does me.

Have a nice day

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: what a stupid reply...to a reasonable response

Dec 3, 2021, 6:16 PM

You picked a fight when you said "they are all leaving" but implied that coaches' sons don't leave.

Jake V and Will S ARE leaving.

So according to your logic, only male cheerleaders will be suiting up for spring practice.

What about the Herbstreit boys? Got any beef with them?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And yet another ignorant reply

Great comment everything you said is what I would say. There's only one player that's left that would have started and that's DK. And technically he was kicked off the team. Feaster was not better than Travis KB was not better than sunshine. As far as Frank goes best ability is availability can't miss what we never saw we got time now to recruit a WR

Wish I could say I'm surprised, but I'm not. We're losing players everywhere, like most other programs.

Probably brings into question even more so why the Dutch Fork WR wasn’t offered earlier.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: That’s a stupid philosophy

Dec 3, 2021, 7:25 PM

The issue is he should be willing to take more. Oversigning is a must in todays world. The kids did it to themselves.

Our recruiting philosophy MUST change now. What worked in the past will not work moving forward.

I think we all saw TP coming, but we need to hit the portal or get another signee. At this rate, teams need to be allowed to carry 95 to 100 scholarship players. You cannot bring in a free agent.

In this world, doing the "right thing" is no longer standard.

Re: Seriously, you would be a much better coach than Dabo.

Dec 3, 2021, 6:25 PM

Right.

Dabo needs to become like the SEC and over-offer. Then when they accept but you don't have room, you tell them they will have to pay their own way (Grey shirt) until a scholly becomes available. (Rolls eyes.)

Why do we have to educate new commenters every single year on how Dabo's recruiting methods are so much more responsible and ethical than most CF coaches practice?

It's not as though signing another potential player was going to prevent Ladson from leaving, anyway.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we don’t start over signing we’re done

Dec 4, 2021, 2:01 AM

We aren’t going to find enough guys we want from the portal IMO

Take the 25 every year and you can be more selective in the portal.

Trusting it’s just the times and not anything specific going on within the program. And going to assume all these transfers open up a few unexpected scholarships. Hopefully the coaches use this as an opportunity to reload, perhaps even with some kids de-committing due to the coaching carousel taking place across the country. Would be nice to come out of all this transition in a stronger position. We’ll see.

The better the program, the more you'll see the portal exit used. At the level the top schools recruit, not every 4 or 5 star is going to be good enough to start. It just the nature of the competition and survival of the fittest. Only difference now is that kids have the option to go somewhere and get PT they can't get here. I don't get all the handwringing. Just keep up the Top 10 recruiting and we'll be fine.

Re: TNET: Clemson WR enters transfer portal

Dec 3, 2021, 4:38 PM

I said we would have a QB problem next year and was called crazy. If DJ decides to enter the transfer portal (Im not saying he will) after the bowl game then we will have a big problem. We would have an incoming Freshman and 2 walk-ons as QB's. This would force Dabo to use the portal. I would like to see Dabo reach out to Spencer Rattler who is in the portal right now but I know that wont happen. Good luck Taisun and Frank...

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Clemson WR enters transfer portal

Dec 3, 2021, 8:32 PM

Why would DJ leave next year? Hes got NO competition. I hope Klubnik is as good as TL, but no indications of it. He's going to have to have at least a year of practice.
Why would we want Rattler? If we cant fix DJ, how we gonna fix Rattled?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There's going to be far more people in the portal than can be picked up

Dec 3, 2021, 5:20 PM

Some of these kids might be in for a rude awakening. There's going to be more players in then there are places for them to land. Some might want to consider turning around and locking up their current scholarship.

But this is precisely what Dabo and many others warned about... It's the players who are going to lose in the long run.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: There's going to be far more people in the portal than can be picked up

Dec 3, 2021, 6:34 PM

There will be a few who land on their feet, and these will be played up by ESPN, so those who don't do their homework will assume a far higher success rate than is real. Most will fail.

The Brian Robinson-type story--waiting until your 4th or 5th year to start at your original school--will become a rare part of the culture.

But kudos to broadcasters who tell his story, too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: There's going to be far more people in the portal than can be picked up

Dec 3, 2021, 7:43 PM

I think it's going to be a boon for the smaller schools. A chance to get talent that traditionally is out of reach that will really upgrade their program.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: There's going to be far more people in the portal than can be picked up

Dec 3, 2021, 11:02 PM

Are you referring to G5 schools?

Because, if you’re referring to FCS schools, the transfer rule hasn’t provided any greater opportunity than existed before.

Players already had the opportunity to transfer down to FCS without losing eligibility. Removing the penalty for the first transfer is designed to allow movement between FBS programs.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Inasmuch as this might lead to greater parity...

Dec 4, 2021, 9:00 AM [ in reply to Re: There's going to be far more people in the portal than can be picked up ]

I might soften my stance on unlimited transfers. Parity in college football is a good thing. If not for Clemson shaking things up these last few years, College football national championships would be quite boring.

No team should have to pay for a player after they quit on the team.

Of course. Semester is almost over. They certainly should finish out. But what about Lyn-J and the others? Did they essentially get a 'free' semester of school without even having to go through the motions of showing up for practice?

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Clemson WR enters transfer portal

Dec 3, 2021, 6:09 PM

When you recruit high prospects, they all expect to play. Not everyone can start at the same. Loosening the portal rules is the fair thing to do for players. The downside is many will find out the grass isn’t always greener elsewhere.

So, a kid goes to a school, thinks he knows better than the coaches, and if the kid doesnt get his way, he transfers? Excuse me, LaKaren James. No. You wait your #### turn. And we wonder where the entitlement really is? My father said...if you join the team, you make a commitment. There is no quitting. You do your best and there is no pouting. That has helped me through many issues in my professional( non-sports) career.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Clemson WR enters transfer portal

Dec 3, 2021, 9:10 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Clemson WR enters transfer portal ]

In the past 5 or 6 seasons we had leads that allowed us to go deep in the playing time pool...we didn't this year, it is part of the problem. Frank was hurt too much and one can only assume he's seeing writing on the wall that we have plenty in front of him and talent coming in. As for TJ...wish he would have left after the bowl game but same situation there. Not enough leads equals starters playing more in the games and less snaps...I guess he thinks DJ is in place and Klunbnik is better than he is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's a reasonable take

Dec 3, 2021, 9:22 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Clemson WR enters transfer portal ]

But I also think it's ultimately going to prove bad for both the kids and the sport.

On the flip side, I also don't want a player who has decided to quit on his team just go through the motions of showing up at practice. That's that's not good for either party as well.

Some kids have all the talent in the world, but have bad attitudes and could really benefit from some tough-love coaching. But they're not going to get that if they can just quit without any serious negative consequences. And on the flip side, a school and a coaching staff invest in you, shapes you and build you into the prototypical player that fits their system. But as soon as things aren't going your way, you leave them high and dry and having to start all over again on another recruit from high school. Call me crazy, but that's just not the way things should be.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In addition to your examples

Dec 3, 2021, 10:04 PM

there are also coaches who bring in kids they shouldn’t, don’t provide them the coaching they should, and don’t manage expectations well.

It’s not always a selfish kid that transfers.

Re: In addition to your examples

Dec 4, 2021, 8:57 AM

Indeed. I imagine it is pretty hard to manage the expectations of 100+ kids from year-to-year. And sometimes there are situations where its just not a good fit. But as far as I can tell, coaches, our coach at least, does not revoke schollys from kids not holding up there end of the bargain. Likewise, there ought to be some amount of reciprocation from the player. In absence of that, some type of penalty system should be in place. Perhaps one unpenalized transfer in the first year. These are kids after all, an these are big choices. I am okay granting them a mulligan in the first 12 months. After that, you are semi-locked in for the next two years (3 years in total). You may then have unlimited/unpenalized transfer options for you final year of eligibility. If transfer becomes necessary between years 1-3, a player my do so only by forfeiting a year of eligibility.

I'd be willing to bet this will be what happens--or something like it--in the coming years.

Dec 3, 2021, 6:48 PM

Ladson was so impressive that day. Made several great catches and thought this is the next first round draft pick wide receiver from Clemson.

He showed some flashes as a freshman, although he was hurt as he always is that year as well. He could get open as he is fast. But he had many drops. Just a very disappointing career for this guy. If he just had a lot of bad luck with the injuries that were unavoidable, I feel sorry for the guy. But can’t wonder if he’s just not tough enough. Frankly, his lack of production is one of the reasons we are not in the playoffs this year. He was a huge five star biased and that’s just the bottom line.

Hopefully he’s just had a lot of bad luck with injuries and he will go somewhere else and do well. But if you put a gun to my head from the outside looking in, the guy just isn’t tough enough to play college football is my read. We will see what happens
