On Nov 22, 1963 I had just finished class & back to Prefab..

Nov 22, 2013, 2:49 PM

house that my wife & I lived in (now the parking lot beside the Athletic Offices & just above the hilly area that goes down to the entry to baseball stadium).

I turned on the TV in the BR before settling down to study..and the announcer was tearful (I thought it was a soap opera at first) and said that President Kennedy had been mortally wounded in Dallas..

Being shocked & in disbelief I hurriedly called my wife who worked at the P&A Building for 3 PHD Professors over the state's Diary Farmers..and she spread the news into the hallway..and when she called back within minutes I announced that Kennedy was dead.

I remember it was a dreary, cold & sunless day..and I felt numb & confused, a bit worried about who did this and if it was a plan to assassinate our leaders..and I was sad, and wondered too if the upcoming Clemson/Carolina game would be played (it was delayed).

Jack's death was a stunner especially since he was only about 46 years old, very popular & charismatic...and today I still am very emotional about the entire event and our Nation's great loss.

RIP Mr. President.

My wife and I lived near you at that time, we were on Ravenel Road. We heard it on our car radio because were on our way to Columbia to spend the night with her sister and go to the game the next day. It was such a shock that I thought maybe I had misunderstood what the announcer said. The assassination was the topic of discussion in every class for the next week or so.

I think that game was to be nationally televised but of course no football was played till the following weekend. I believe it was not nationally televised then as I've heard the story go

I had just completed a math class and was walking past
the Chem. Bldg. fixing to cross the street on the way
back to A-6 when I got the news. Unforgitable.

I also lived in the prefabs on that day but I was just 21 months old as my dad was attending Clemson as a married student. I have no direct recollection of the event obviously but I have grown up with the images of Nov 22 1963 and I can still feel the palpable grief that enveloped the Nation... RIP JFK.

My nextdoor neighbor as a kid was the Army Sgt pallbearer

in the pictures carrying the President's casket. I used to talk to him about it when I was in HS. Talk about emotional....he was devastated but honored to be selected to be on the pallbearer detail. My mom still gets emotional about it and I was also born on the day RFK was killed in '68. Very sad times for our nation.

I Just Remember Watching

President Kennedy's funeral on TV (Black and White). I was all of 5 years old and remember how sad my parents were at the time.
