I do see a 17 year old who knows what they are doing differently than I see an 8 year old being attacked by a pedophile. 17 year olds getting married in some states. We see it differently. I am against Gaetz though, but we lose arguments when we get carried away and come across as insincere and desperate. That is the same reason that the argument that democracy would be over if Trump won was such a loser. People see through the contrived drama.

She was 17, above the age of consent in most states. What was illegal was taking her over state lines and out of the country for sex with him and his bros. That brings in federal trafficking laws. Then all the nude pics he showed to people on the house floor: if any of them were under 18, and there’s a high likelihood they were, than brings in federal child pornography laws.
