Offensive turn around

I have noticed three significant changes in playcalling. I mean, I could be wrong; I am not a coach. Anyway, to the untrained eye, here it goes:
1. Not running up the middle on first down almost every series.
2. Absence of the bubble screen.
3. More passes attacking the middle.
Do I see things incorrectly?

All that and more motion I think. I don’t recall many players in motion the past couple of years.
And more misdirection. I’m rewatching the game now, and it’s noticeable.

I think it all goes back to the OL and the massive leap they’ve made.
They have done so well it’s given Cade more confidence to stand back there and let plays develop, which has led to better downfield shots which has led to better lanes since they can stack the box

This is true. Cade had jumpy feet last season and with good reason.

But I also noticed that he is stepping up the pocket more. Is it because there is a pocket? Or could it be that he is improving his pocket presence or some combination of both?

Sticking with one running back. Last couple of years has been running back by platoon. I just think that doesn’t allow one back to really get into a groove. Mafah seems to get stronger as the game goes on. That’s what you want. The ability to run the ball and run the clock successfully when you have a lead late in the game.

Great observation about Mafah. Agree 100% and grateful he plays for the Tigers.

I would say 1. Better OL play. Was at game yesterday and when head sets came off, Dabo seems to have great respect and appreciation for Matt Luke.
2. More WR weapons.

How about tempo? Are they running more plays now? Is the offense more a hurry up style or are they just clicking and it seems like it is more up tempo?

Definitely playing more tempo. I think that helps some QBs because they have to react and not think.

You’re just seeing a better QB throwing to better WRs while being protected by a better OL.
We were really bad at all 3 of those positions last year. Play calling reflected that.

Yes, you see that incorrectly.
The main difference is a quarterback with a year of experience, and more weapons at receiver. That's the difference.
Also, they are still throwing the receiver screens. They just work now, gor the aforementioned reasons.

I think a big factor to our O being improved is protecting the ball as well. Play calling does seem improved for sure. Cade looks more comfortable as well and the WRs are making plays.

You are right on. Need more pitch outs and reverse plays.
