Pollack was one of the best they had on ESPN. Down to earth, didnt oversell, didnt seem to have an agenda, called it like it was. Cant imagine what espn was thinking.

Exactly, they're looking for versatility of their staff that can be on multiple shows/platforms and carry the show themselves.
That's why they have someone like McAfee - whether you like him or not, people have been watching/listening his shows specifically for him, and he's on multiple platforms (radio/youtube/instagram snippets of his youtube show/now will be traditional TV). Since there are so many cord cutters and podcast subscription (that also goes into youtube viewership, since many podcasts are now also videos on youtube), they have to have that versatility.
The next ones you will see on espn once they retire are the Kelces.

Agree he’s one of the guys you couldn’t help but like… he was very fair and knowledgeable. Hate to see him let go but def think he will land somewhere else… compared to some of the others that still have a job it makes you wonder lol

Not what folks want to hear. That’s why there is no cable news show that reports “just the news”.
We want to be entertained with opinions that match our own so we feel good and warm OR opinions opposite so we get pissed and talk to others how pissed we are at someone/something.
We don’t want just the facts and balanced. Or very few really do I think.
I guess this is my own little “get off my lawn” rant.

Steven Smith was the highest paid sports announcer in the business. Without question he is the most irritating single individual that I have ever heard. I refuse to watch any show with him on it. He obviously had a terrible childhood!

Agree 100% , he was refreshing to watch though he was never super biased even reporting about uga and gave credit where it was due no matter if it didn’t fit the sec narrative most wanted from him. Sucks that being “fair” and unbiased gets you canned these days. He deserved better.

Agreed, he was one of my favorites too, hated he got canned. Nice guy, and can speak from experience and great knowledge of the game. But he must not have moved the needle enough for what he was being paid.

I stopped watching ESPN "shows" other than actual games 10 years ago or so.

Had to do with Pat McAfee. Pretty sure he probably was bringing more viewership to game day. And is more widely known in the media around the country.
