Hall, Wiggins, Schieffelin, C Hunter, and Girard started... Clark was 1st off the bench
a healthy P J Hall s going to be fun to watch this season. he is running and jumping much better than he was last year
Schieffelin looks more fit - also running and jumping better (though he does not have great hops) roster shows he grew an inch and is heavier, but looks thinner he is a monster in the paint with great hands and a nose for the ball
Beadle played with a mask - missed some shots in the 1st half, but looked good in the second. he is a great athlete and showed his skills a few times
Wiggins and Clark both looked pretty good. both let it fly from 3 with mixed results
Godfrey played well around the rim
Hunter bros both looked solid...i wonder if the Tigers best 5 includes both of them?
Girard looked pretty good - but not a good sign when a guard from Newberry can post him up and score over him
Hemenway did not play/dress
Bas Leyte is the Middlebrooks replacement

I was surprised when it happened. He had a good future with Clemson. Didn't follow where he landed.

Not really. He wanted to get more minutes. He was not going to get more minutes because he was behind PJ. PJ is likely gone after this year, but it's not a guarantee. There was a chance that middlebrookes would be hall's backup for his entire career. Cant fault the man for transferring to get more PT.

Hall is true senior, so there is no next year. Middlebrooks had a chance to be the starting center next season if he continued to improve.

My oversight, I guess there’s a Covid season available but he’s already done the NBA predraft. This most certainly will be his last season.

I agree, he is probably gone, but he still has a year of eligibility. Also im pretty sure middlebrookes transferred prior to him showing out at the combine, but i cant remember timing

People scoffed his freshmen and even soohmore years, but he came out slinging and didn’t let up last season. Look for Ian to be a key player throughout this season again with more scoring opp’s.

Giard is definitely going to be a liability on defense, but if he can score the way he has in the past it makes up for it and then some. Very excited for the development of Dillon Hunter, Beadle, and Wiggins. All those guys showed flashes as freshman and need to take a step to be more consistent this year in bigger roles. A healthy PJ Hall is a game changer. if he can fly around the court and play 30 minutes a night he will be first team All ACC.

Yes, he looked down last night. You can tell he isn't happy about being on the sideline again after so much downtime last year. Even when he returned last year he wasn't the same player. I really hoped he would be healthy this year.

yeah, if can get Clark healthy that is a big key. Middlebrooks had like 7 pts and 9 Rebs in the exhibition for NC State last night so they got a guy who can help too.

Clark will certainly help. Our biggest weakness is we don't really have a Center. I know PJ can play the 5 position with most teams, but he's not a center. Bas is going to be his backup and will be as good or better than Middlebrooks. I really wasn't that impressed with Ben last year. Granted, he was young and still learning but not a great loss. It seems his role was to go out and take the fouls so PJ didn't get in foul trouble.

I went too, and I liked what I saw!
PJ was dominant in the little bit he played. Still want to see him more aggressive on the boards, though. 1 rebound in that time period is pitiful, but obviously he only played 13 min so it's hard to take too much from that. Offensively, he is almost unguardable. His jump shot looks great and he has such a good variety of shots that he can use from that sort of 10 ft and in range. Very, VERY excited to see a full season of healthy PJ (immediately knocks on something wooden)
Chase Hunter looked pretty good, but he struggled shooting it last night. However, we know what he's capable of, so I'm not too worried about that. He took good care of the ball and had zero turnovers. He has really rounded into a nice PG when we were all kind of worried he wouldn't be able to play the 1 that well. I am excited to see how he plays this season.
Girard looked great. We all know he is an elite jump shooter, and he made a couple of threes. But what I really enjoyed seeing from him was his effort on defense and he even had a nice couple of passes. I don't think Girard will ever be confused with an elite defender, but just seeing his effort level was good. I was worried he might come in and be an offense-first chucker, but if last night is any indication, that may not be the case.
Jack Clark is LONG. Clemson hasn't had a player with that kind of wingspan and athleticism since the OP days. He is going to be really valuable on defense and on the boards. He has a nice jump shot too, and he chipped in with a couple of long jumpers.
Schieffelin is such a hard worker in the paint. He rebounded like an absolute boss, but he is just so athletically limited that I do worry about him versus more athletic front lines. However, he will NEVER ever be accused of not putting forth an effort. He is a quality piece who provides so many things at the 4 spot that most other 4s don't -- he's a good passer, a competent shooter, and has such an excellent feel for the game.
Chauncey Wiggins is an NBA player for sure if he can improve his ballhandling and ability to attack off the dribble, because he is a great perimeter shooter and he is so, SO athletic on defense. He was guarding Newberry's PG last night at times -- at 6'10". Love his game and his potential.
Godfrey is just a junkyard dog and I love it. Wide-bodied, athletic, his only limitation is his height at 6'7". He came pretty dang close to a double double last night in only 15 minutes. He will fight for every rebound and bang in the paint all day. Just needs to be a little better with ball security and learn to add some more dimensions to his game, because at his size, he needs to provide help in other ways when he is overmatched by bigger players.
Beadle -- ugh. Still looks wild, still looks out of control, still spastic. He did make a couple threes but man he is so frustrating because he could be really good if he could just simmer down a little.
Dillon Hunter might be our best driver. He didn't shoot the ball much from outside so I couldn't tell if he was any better at that. He is a good ballhandler and I love watching him take the ball to the basket off the dribble. He is going to be a good PG for us long-term.
Asa Thomas looks good to be a true freshman. I think he could contribute a couple plays here or there. Couldn't tell much about Heidbreder.
Bas Leyte is really big and is there to use five fouls to spell PJ. That's about it.
Anyway, I'm sure I left something/someone out, but regardless, I am really excited for what this team can do. I don't think they'll have any trouble scoring, which is nice, but i do worry about their strength on the glass and what will happen when they face a bigger, more athletic team. This is a Clemson team that has some athletes, but we are still at a deficit in that department against teams like Duke, UNC, and even FSU. However, there is a TON of skill on this team and they play with a really high basketball IQ. I think it could be a second weekend NCAAT team if all breaks right.
Very much looking forward to the season.

Great review. I agree with it all except I think Beadle looked a lot better in the second half than first. Plus he was wearing a mask. He has great potential, just not there yet. If they stay together, him, Wiggins and Godfrey are going to be awesome in in the next year or two.
I thought Schieffelin and Godfrey were the standouts last night. Not the best, but were the most fun to watch and played the hardest.

can't imagine what the little Newberry guard(s) thought about having to go up against someone with Wiggins' length
but what a weapon on D - he can guard a wide range of players
agree on Beadle, if he could channel his energy and his talent, he could be a huge contributor
