Now, if you want to argue about how the pervasiveness of social media in America has been bad for young people, then you’d have something worth being worked up about.

Lauding a player's return publicly is a mild but substantial emotional and political trigger tool that would be a waste not to take advantage of its availability and possible lingering effects for the future. On it's face it is absurd and irrational but could be played up even more to some advantage, not too much, as you don't want every player on the 1st and 2nd string auditioning for their figurative coming back to the same school "participation trophy". Ships are 1 year contracts, we forget this because they're rarely treated as such; wouldn't mind seeing that change, mildly.
