What's with the lack of sportsmanship nowadays in college football?

Is it because it's become a professional sport now? Is it not emphasized anymore in high school sports or something?

It hasn't changed for the worse. It might even be better.

Fighting has been around a long time both on and off field.

I'm sure everyone recalls the story of the Clemson Corps marching in arms to the Carolina Horseshoe in the early part of the last century, ready to do battle over a paper mache Tiger. I remember a short brawl between Clemson and Bama players in Death Valley in the 60's, which Frank Howard and Bear Bryant finally stopped. Then, there was the nasty brawl about 20 years ago in DV.
Probably will be hard to stop it unless strident rules are put in place and enforced...like expulsion from a team, whatever.

Like we have been discussing-------it is no longer college football--these are professional mercenary players. They do not care the least bit for the school whose colors they wear. They care only for their paychecks and dark NIL money.

Seems I recall a time where NFL players in the 80s were celebrating in ens zones which led to a bunch of taunting in the college ranks. I guess they were right when they said history repeats itself.

When’s the last time you heard of a player suspended for disciplinary reasons by a team?

Plus like the other poster said no consequences. We had a brawl and got banned from postseason. Big Ten f8ned the schools and nothing on the players.

Look around you everywhere. It’s not just college football. Sportsmanship, class, dignity, respect, and common sense have all but disappeared in most aspects of our society. Why would we expect college football to be any different?

Nothing has changed.... everything is just on TV and the internet now. As a matter of fact, things were much worse before cell phones and the TV. Plus, we are all softened quite a bit.
I am so thankful cell phones and social media weren't around when I was at Clemson and growing up.
