Not to give Riley any kind of pass.......

but, remember, Cade is not his QB. Cade came in 2022 and was the 2023 starter when Riley came in. Think it's become apparent that Cade is probably not going to be and was really never that guy. I'm not sure Vizzina is Riley's guy either but he's our backup, for now. I would give Riley another year with a QB that has had been part of recruiting and let's see how it goes. Just my thought there.

When you see the film study by Aaron Murray and others, it is apparent that Riley is not the one to blame - maybe play selection, but there are receivers open almost every play, Cade locks on to the only covered guy or completely misses the throw. He is a total dud.

You coach the talent you have, not what you wish they had. I’ve seen coaches in many sports try to employ their “philosophy” when they didn’t have the right personnel for it. It usually ends in disaster. It’s his job to evaluate the skills of the players he has and properly use them. He’s not doing that.

I'm sure Dabo is the one evaluating the talent and decides who is playing and when and where. If Riley does not think Cade is the player for the job do you really think Dabo is going to let Garrett replace him? Not a chance.

I don’t think he was insinuating Riley could replace Cade. I think he was saying that Riley should adjust the offensive play calling to help Cade be more successful.
I remember when the coaches tried to do this with DJ. He threw a pic, and after the game Elliot was interviewed and asked about it. It boiled down to the coaching staff trying to dumb down the plays for DJ, having him make throw or to a specific receiver vs having him go through his progressions.
Lesson being… There are some things you just can’t fix.

I watched several games yesterday where the QBs had anticipation, decisiveness, and were throwing accurately into tight windows.
When I watch Cade play this year, he looks nothing like that. He rarely throws the ball before the receiver makes his break, waits for the guy to be wide *** open, or sometimes inexplicably throws into double coverage. I’m not sure if he’s having issues reading defenses, but something isn’t clicking right in his brain.

Riley is in his third season. What qb do we have that he recruited on the roster. I think only Denson and he was a fall back guy. I know he has two coming in next season but would think he would have had at least two by now

Riley deserves a lot of the blame. He continues to call QB runs and Cade cannot run. He averages 2 yards per run. Most of the time he trips over himself and he cannot run the zone read. I really think Dabo and Riley should go hand pick a portal QB to come in next year.
