Midyear replacement rule still requires use of all 85 scholarships for the fall semester. I think.

There were. Already have teams now. Still a load of 4*s needing a good home. Some of yall talk about the portal but don't have the first clue what is in it.

I'm not but if I were Dabo, I would tell Matt Luke to search the portal for 3 talented O Lineman with playing experience to see if he could help our OL right now...

One point on the 2025 class. By my count, we have 12 seniors and graduates currently on the roster. Even factoring attrition of six players (pick your number), the 2025 class will be small. We currently have 11 commits so it is likely Dabo will hold the spots for the next class. This assumes no additional attrition and the thought we can have interest from top tier recruits.

You could also get two 1 year players to help this season and still have those 2 scholarships for the 2025 class.

It would be nice to see a: DE, OL and WR join the team.
DE - Will need some 2nd string depth this year. OL - Need talent (always need depth too). WR - Need mature talent and depth given injuries is all this group knows the last 3 years.

is that you can still hold the scholarships for the 2025 class and add someone through the portal to help our depth that has one year of eligibility left, but apparently that is a concept that is struggling to be grasped. The depth, inexperience and youth of the roster has been a major issue the last few years and the coaching staff is just refusing to address it once again it appears.

Dabo gets paid the big bucks to make those decisions, and T-Netters don't make those choices for him, they're his and his alone...

decisions have led to a decline in the play of the program and three consecutive subpar seasons. Continuing to make these same decisions, when help to correct those issues is right there in front of your face, seems a bit asinine to me. You can’t continue to tout that Best is the standard, if you, yourself, is not willing to make simple roster adjustments to better the team and put it in it’s best position to succeed.

You speak of the portal like a head coach can just say hey kid you’re on my team now! Dabo has gone after lineman in the portal the last couple of years. They have to be a culture fit and they have to want to come play for your team. You can’t just go grab a portal player. The majority of the top players in the portal already have somewhere they want to go or have arranged a deal with. So the whole Dabo don’t use the portal theory isn’t necessarily true. It would be asinine to assume so.

Why do people act like Clemson's culture is such a barrier to entry for portal players? We recruit knuckleheads every single recruiting class that end up washing out within 18 months. You telling me that they were somehow perfect "culture angels" during the recruiting process and then changed once they got on campus?
We don't get portal players because we have below average NIL and because Dabo uses the portal reluctantly, not actively

I think at least part of it is that Clemson has yet to dive into the dark side and begin “tampering”. I want a clean program, but the NCAA needs to reign in this mess.

I know when I hit campus as a 17 year old that had never really been away from home much I had way too much fun my first semester. So much so it affected my career plans.

I think need to let Paul Tyson be a student coach or a true grad assistant because that is what he originally came there to do. Then give his scholarship to someone else such a player out of the portal.

so basically we are in need of a QB and a OL based on

where we are with what the coaches typically target. Would still leave us short a QB(assuming Pearman gets one) but that really can't be corrected this year. Could afford to lose a ST guy. LS is a permanent scholarship IMO so taking Caspersen off isn't likely or feasible. When's the last time a LS didn't get a scholarship- yes, a lot of times you have 2 guys battle for the spot but 1 guy wins a scholly. LS are on scholarship practically everywhere. You run a serious risk of losing them by not having them on scholly. It's probably the 23 most valuable spot on the team when you think about it. Doubtful you pick up an OL at this point. A little heavy on DBs but given we now play 2 LBs and 5 DBs more often than not, I don't think the 9/15 target #s for those positions are outdated.

My Questions For David:
- who are the walk-ons on the team right now that have a shot at being put on scholarship? There always seems to be a hard worker who earns a scholly in Junior/Senior year. - In these NIL days, can a highly paid athlete be taken off scholarship and pay his own way, and have a spot available for someone who needs it?? What would they have to pay out of pocket that a walk on also has to pay for???

Cautiously optimistic that Matt Luke can develop & upgrade this lousy o-line. An improved o-line changes this team's 2024 fortunes.

Use the other two for portal players. No since in a de facto Grad Assistant using up a scholarship.

I read articles like this that infuriates me. The idea that we’re not attacking the portal is so frustrating. Letting other teams get better while we sit and watch. Oh well. Should be use to us by now.

Looking forward to the video where Dabo surprises them with scholarships
Just to reiterate only one power 5 team in the country has yet to sign a portal player this year. It's tough to be elite when you don't maximize every opportunity to improve your team.
