ND WILL HAVE TO JOIN A CONFERENCE

According to Greg Flugaur at PATC. LAST night on his you tube show Flugaur said he had inside information from reliable Big 10 source who said that the SEC/BIG was going to start interconference scheduling of up to 16 games all broadcast on TV. The conference schedule is to boost the media rights revenue for the two conferences who will not be scheduling any games with ND and probably not with other conferences. ND will not be able to play any of the SEC/BIG teams. This will reduce the value of their media rights contract with NBC. If they want to play any SEC/BIG teams, they will have to join one of those conferences.
This arrangement will also affect those games the SEC/BIG have with the ACC.
ND saw the handwriting on the wall and thus they tried to push the 70 team Rudy plan which would have enabled them to stay independent. The SEC/BIG was having none of that.
If ND JOINS THE BIG, IT COULD SET OFF A BIG EXODUS OF TEAMS FROM THE ACC.
FLUGAUR says this story will be covered by the big sports media starting early next year.
Makes perfect business sense for SEC/BIG to do this to boost TV revenue.

I have no doubt it's inevitable that ND will lose it's independence in FB. I for one hope it lasts a bit longer as it buys us time until the P2 happens. I just can't see the powers that be allowing ND to not be in the discussion every year to potentially play for a playoff spot/natty.
Also if they do leave the ACC in all sports, we can say it allows some loss of profitability from the ACC and may allow us a way out.

The biggest reason Notre Dame needs to join a conference so they can earn a top four seed. The way it’s set up the best ND can ever earn is a 5 seed. They could be #1 all year long but when the playoffs are seeded the best they can ever be is 5 since they aren’t a conference champion. They can never have the first round bye. That’s a big reason to join

Yes, especially in today's 12 team playoff. However, once the SEC/B1G split off and refuse to play anyone outside the conference I doubt they allow ND any power. Thus forcing their hand.
That could happen very soon.

They have a 1st round bye by not playing a conference championship game

In many cases the loser of the conference champ game will be eliminated from the playoffs so instead of playing the de facto first round at a neutral site they get to play the actual first round at home. Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me

It’s not a sweet deal. Even after the conference champ games teams still have plenty of time to rest so really all ND is doing is taking too much time off before they play the first round at home and then they have to win 3 games…. Nothing sweet about that except playing at home in a playoff game. That’s cool but the bye is better

No one has more power than ND. Their AD is part of the CFP steering committee along with the commissioners of the conferences. So the ND AD has the same vote as Greg Sankey and Tony Petitti, and he agreed on this format. It's much much better to have a home playoff game than a neutral site playoff game. There are 3 weeks between the conference championship games and the quarters so if anyone is gonna be rusty it'll be the teams with the bye.

Stanford is in the ACC which is covered by the ND / ACC contract which says they HAVE to play at least 5 ACC teams a year. .
which leaves 7 games
Navy is not in the BIG/SEC so they could continue to schedule that game every year if they want.
That leaves 6 games.
USC is one team i know they play a lot , if not every year. I don't know how Indiana and Purdue fit in their history.
MY guess is .. IF the BIG and SEC really blackball ND, then ND will just play more ACC schools. That is only if they want to stay independent.
IF they do decide to join a conference.. it will be the BIG. NO way they pass up that $$$ for the ACC.

Yes, lots of discussion from all the sites two weeks ago about the SECB1G exploring things and likely leading to a P2 with even more revenue per team.
I guess the YouTube guy said “well, what happens to ND?”
Doesn’t sound like YouTube guy has any insider info.

Greg Flugaur is a You Tube personality that comes up with anything that would hurt the ACC and boost the Big 12 leftovers. Constantly throwing stuff out regarding conference realignment. Why anyone gives him and his bogus sources (probably other Big 12 social media personalities in their momma's basement) credibility is beyond me.

big time OOC games against UGA, LSU, Auburn, etc. to test us and make us do better. And even worse, allowing USuC to claim they are 30x better than us because they get a no game with us every year and with the rest of the P2 tell the world our schedule just isn't up to snuff to their schedule every year. Clemson has to get out of "John Swofford's Paradise" before then.

Canceling one year because of mass overreaction and ridiculous "safety" measures is not the same as canceling the series indefinitely due to conference requirements.

Ha. If this happens SC isn't getting any marquee match ups with the biggest B1G brands. Those will go to Bama, Texas, Georgia etc. SC will get matchups with BIG patsies like Rutgers and Maryland.

Exactly - amazes me how many times folks post on TigerNet with one of these abstract acronyms that means nothing to the other 99% T-Netters. So I did a web search of PATC and here is what came up:
Public Agency Training Conference Potomac Appalachian Trail Club Performance Automotive Transmission Center
None of the search results for PATC were related to college football. What that tells me is that Greg Flugaur must not be some widely known fellow...

We could have used the leverage to force them to permanently join the ACC in football.
Instead, the conference kissed their butts and let them get in for only a year.

Notre Dame won't join a conference in football.
Oct 22, 2024, 11:36 AM

They have a better shot at making the playoffs every year as an independent.
They don't need a 1st round playoff bye. They already effectively get that by not having to play a conference CG.
They also have the NBC contract for football, and entanglement no other school has.
They are also tied to the ACC GOR for the Olympic sports.
It would be surprising if they navigate all of that to join the P2 any time soon, if at all.
