Norvell's $12mil NIL team netted 2 wins

This is definitely not an ROI that is sustainable. How many of those FSU Alum will be willing to invest at the same rate?
This from Sporting News:
"Norvell has relied heavily on the transfer portal during his tenure, with mixed results. In 2023, it propelled the Seminoles to a 13-1 record, an ACC Championship, and a controversial exclusion from the College Football Playoff. This past season, however, the portal strategy backfired, contributing to a $12 million NIL investment that yielded just two wins, according to Bruce Feldman at The Athletic."

It gives me great joy. What happened to FSU and even Miami this year after all the money they splurged is splendid and to be celebrated .Florida State is an absolute embarrassment. Miami has struck out in multiple Sports after spending that kind of money The last few years. It'll be interesting to see how they both react in the coming years with how much they're going to spend. Last thing I heard about the big Miami booster money magnet is that his side NIO business was about to go under. Probably just a way for him to write off a bunch of taxes and start a new one. Who knows. But this has been such a bright spot of this season.

John Ruiz, The big booster that bought a bunch of the basketball players to include those Twin sisters a couple yrs ago is going down. His business was a Ponzi Scheme and he is shutting down. His businesses mainly fake medical billing had reported to investors that they billed $211m in 2023 but when investigated the Feds only found $7m billed.
Ruiz also had created a NIL firm for Miami but one has to assume those donations will wane after finding Ruiz was leader in Ponzi scheme.

I’m not going to attempt a fact-check, and thus am tak8ng your word for it.
This Ruiz account indeed makes Hurricanes sports look like a recession is in store.
Surely Miami has some other very wealthy college sport fan ego maniacs that will cough up more money in exchange for having Cristobal clean their pools and trim their hedges.

NIL/pay for play is a mixed bag and can be boom or bust for some teams. With that being said, most of the teams in the playoffs are big NIL and portal participants. An inconvenient fact for the pay for play/portal dumpers.

Anything without rules & binding contracts won’t work in the long run. Common sense would improve the NIL greatly, the wild Wild West is just that, greed gone wild!

we made the pool of available players too small, could be an easy fix, lower cost, slow movement from team to team

That, my friend, is the problem with NIL. NIL was never supposed to be more than an athlete sitting in a car at Jim's Toyota and getting paid to do commercials. Time will tell, but it has less to do about wins than it does the number of zeros in people's bank accounts.

By that math, UNC should get 3 wins for their $20 million NIL.

And now he will have no choice but to rely more heavily than ever on the portal. He’s losing a ton of players through graduation or aging out and the portal.
Not a position you want to be in. Short term, flash in the pan thinking and strategy. And yet the whole world was 100% certain they were the class of the ACC this year and had passed us by.

Agree. Shows that the portal and NIL can be used to fill out needs on a roster, but you cannot successfully build one totally from the portal.

Yeah, should they invest in the stadium upgrades that costs them about 15,000 seats or should they just invest in more players.

I can't believe someone can be this stupid to post this sort of conclusion.
There are so many factors that go into a winning football games. Having good players is a necessary ingredient. This retarded post seems to conclude that having good players via NIL is the sole reason for only having two wins.
