no med RS for Kelly?
Apr 18, 2013, 3:37 PM

Is it not as serious of an injury as we were told or what? If it's an ACL tear doesn't that take up to a year to heal from? It misses logic to me to not use a Med on this one. I know he's already been redshirted but you can still use a medical on Kelly, right?
Also, anyone feel more confident about Deshaun Watson after seeing him at the spring game? It's going to take a real Judas school to take him away. Urban Meyer strikes me as that kind of guy tho :/

i saw an early leaver first round qb at the spring game in Chad Kelly? He looked good, don't get me wrong, but leaving as a Junior to enter the NFL draft? need a little more proof. Or do you mean as far as a degree he'll be gone?

Yeah, but that was before a catastrophic (and potentially career ending) injury.

Why would he do that? Chad wants to play football, and only one year as a starter isn't going to jump him into the NFL first round. I don't know why makes you say "he's gone after three years," the kid isn't Clowney and he's not Sammy. We have known those two will only be around 3 years. Chad will be here for 5 years if that's what he has to do to start and eventually be a high draft pick.

He cannot get a medical RS year. He's already

redshirted one year and that wasnt a medical RS year. The only way the NCAA grants the 6th yr of eligibility is if a kid has a redshirt because of medical reasons. Then they will usually grant a second RS year.

A non-medical redshirt. If last year's redshirt was a medical, then there would be a possibility for a 6th year of eligibility if a medical was granted for 2013. D1 players have only 5 years to play 4 years. Dado tried to explain this in an interview.

It will take 8-12 months. I expect that Chad will not play at all this year; but Dabo doesn't want to give other coaches the open door to go recruit Watson.
Beat UGA and don't worry about Mr. Watson. Lose to UGA, and he will have a hard time with the locals in his ear.

I would not be shocked at all if Chad Kelly got a Medical RS. ACL's aren't the sort of thing that should be rushed.

PHYSICALLY it doesn't take a year to heal from an ACL tear, especially these days. The mental aspect is what takes the longest to recover from for an athlete.
I tore my ACL my senior year of high school and after a few months of therapy my leg with the repaired knee was technically stronger than my "good" leg according to the tests they ran. However, I felt like if I looked at my knee the wrong way my ACL would tear again for several months after fully healing.
It all depends on the individual. Some people are never the same again physically and others almost break NFL rushing records months later.

The start of the 2013 season is just over 4 months away. No way, he'll get back that quickly. Kelly hasn't even had surgery yet, much less started rehab.

Absolutely. I wasn't saying he will be able to play this season (especially at the start of the season). He will, however, be fully healed by some point in the season. That doesn't mean he will or even should play a down, but the OP asked about how long it takes to heal from that injury.

My wife is a practicing PT and has been for 16 years. The average recovery time for a torn ACL is 8 to 10 months (after surgery.) Unless they are going to send him overseas for some type of new surgery, he will not play this year.

Your low end average recovery time is a little high. It's closer to 6 months at the low end and up to 9 or 10 months on the high end (on average) for athletes.
I also do not think he will play this year.

at the Spring Game! Imagine him and Watson dividing time. I think both will enjoy the competition. Personally, I hope he makes a miraculous recovery and can play in a few games at end of season. He was on his way to displacing Stoudt, who I like too, but he is no Chad Kelly!

If his recovery goes well then he be able to see pt late October or early November. If hes the qb to replace tahj like everyone is expecting him too then he needs to play as much as he can in 13. If we med rs him then he wont have any actual gametime before his starting debut at georgia in 14. Just my opinion

I have to disagree with those stating Kelly is gone after 3. I just don't see that. He has way too much to learn, and the rehab will slow that progress. If Kelly leaves in 3, he's making a mistake IMO.
Good luck to him if he goes - but he'd better improve a lot to play on Sundays.
That said: I'm pretty sure he will not med RS this year, and will get to play towards the end of the season. Stoudt is 2nd team though, so it's after Stoudt plays in a game that Kelly gets a chance.
