BINGO TIgerKat84!!! We had a couple of extremely talented kickers in the early 80's with those two futbollers from Nigeria!!! It was like money in the bank! They were a serious threat, will be great again to have such a threat from mid field! Very exciting news, kid sounds incredible! Go Tigers!

For those that aren’t in the soccer loop. If he was with Dallas FC since 8th grade, this means he is a prime time pro type athlete. If he played mid field, this means his coordination and overall skill is 99th percentile. I guarantee you this kid can kick a football. And probably could make it curve either direction. This type of kid will be making a living playing pro sports one way or the other.

Thanks for posting that. I didn’t know Iggy had been cleared in that drug issue. “Iggy kick the piggy” was said to be Coach Fords saying!

Obed Ariri Another Clemson great was also a Soccer player with no real Football experience. That make two of the Tigers all time great kickers Soccer converts.
The "Iggy kick the Piggy" comes from a Bob Hope TV special that showed a portion of his live performance at Clemson in which he also made fun of waling around in the "Tin Cans"

hey goober he signed with soccer. if he ever makes the football team he will count against the 85. if he is good enough to help football what could possibly be wrong with that. seems to me everyone should be ecstatic with getting a guy that may put soccer over the top. but i guess that does not fit your narrative.

Don't worry about his not having played football before ....
Dec 18, 2019, 4:53 PM
|
|
... I was on the soccer team when Obed was there and also with Donald. The football practice fields were right beside the soccer practice field and sometimes there were footballs left on the ground by the goalposts after practice. We'd got over, stick the ball in the ground and easily kick them from 40 yards with no "football training". The technique of hitting the ball is no different.
Having played competitive soccer, Tanner, like us, has been in the pressure cooker of intense, physical games ... like many of us, he probably has ice water in his veins, so once he locks in on the proper football technique, kicking the ball will be second nature to him.
No doubt he understands the dynamics of the flight of the ball -- all he's got to do is kick it straight, whereas in soccer, at the central midfield position, I'm sure he already knows about hitting it with spin, and the fact that the ball curves more (when hit right) when the temperature is hotter.
The difference comes in having several 250+ pound guys rushing at you as you approach the ball - which is generally about 50 pounds heavier than he has had on the soccer field.
Don't worry, he'll make the transition easily. The key will be composure and consistency ... and how easily he learns from, and forgets a missed kick... ">

Maybe they can find a better holder that won't miss the spot by 2-3" every time, perhaps someone not related to a coach. Current holder has screwed BT big time. Also, long snapper can't consistently snap laces out every time? There are high school snappers that can do that, which minimizes operation time and the probability the right hand is still on the ball turning the laces when the kick is made. Just bad special teams execution in general. Get a former kicker as a quality control coach and you can improve this area immediately.

The thing I don't understand is how he plays both when the seasons overlap. Are there going to be times when there has to be a choice of which game he plays in?
