The importance of one questionable penalty

May 5, 2017, 8:18 AM

Has anyone considered the importance of that absurd personal foul called on Wilkins during Scar's opening drive in the third quarter? One play later, all Clemson fans groaned in disgust as the shutout was lost. However, as satisfying as blanking a hated opponent is, those 7 points have provided opportunities to perpetuate the smug satisfaction that we all deeply feel on a daily basis.

GvlTgr's post this morning pointed out that we are 56 days away from the 7th month. Simply seeing that made me smile, but there is no 0th month, so a shutout would have robbed me of that smile.

Every day provides two opportunities to appreciate 6:04 in a way that we have never before, but there is no 56 minutes before 0 o'clock or 5:60 (perhaps that is 6:00, but one would have to find a Mickey Mouse watch to try to explain the math to an average coot -- no offense to Mickey Mouse).

Clever TNET posters have come up with numerous manipulations of the 56-7 score since November, each one bringing me a little joy and satisfaction, that might have been lost without a blown call.

In short, the lone positive that SCU could take away from this game has been an immeasurable source of joy for Clemson fans ever since.

I hope this makes you smile this morning.

We would have all preferred that, of course, but my original point remains valid.

Agreed. I think we would have played these games with any blowout score though. We are just a creative bunch.
