NIL basic question

When I look at what Clemson has invested in recent sports adds it is impressive. I did wonder can a school ,any school, fund NIL or must all of that come from sources outside the school. Could a school fun NIL by sponsorship on uniforms much like MLB, and Hockey have started to do. Just wondering how all these things work. Some knowledgeable replies would be welcome

Not knowledgeable, but it certainly seems like NCAA doesn't have a handle on it, themselves. If someone comes up with an idea, run with it. Better to beg forgiveness, than ask permission

The schools are just about to start paying the players directly so this will become a thing.

Just a guess, but as a state supported school, Clemson cannot use state funds for NIL. A big majority of Power 5 schools are state schools and would not use state/taxpayer funds on NIL. Athletic Department funds come from athletic revenue and could be used, but many schools spend more on athletics than they bring in so you can't spend what you don't have.

So schools like Clemson for organizations to collect money from us and then hand over as a middle man to player. Clemson in addition to Iptau is asking people to give to their 110 Society that gets dollars to players. They also have the Clemson Exchange where businesses and others can communicate with student athlete for business deals and sponsorships. They can be paid for autograph sessions, you can buy speakers or birthday parties or other things for kids profit. Schools can call it whatever but all it does it get money to player. Clemson’s biggest guys you have heard figures like 400-500K. But even that is hard to sustain when you have to give millions to keep Coach or Assistants. Texas schools might as well just give their oil over to players. Not sustainable as fans cannot continue to do Iptay but then also do 110 Society and parking and other things.

The school cannot raise money for NIL. That’s a third party as NCAA rules state. They can facilitate deals where they couldn’t last year. It’s basically an endorsement machine for players to get paid. When you say Texas is paying their o line 100k a year they really aren’t it’s a separate entity paying players. The players must report all nil deals to the university. It’s not some bank account a school creates and pays players.

NIl money can only be raised through a collective. The college can’t directly pay players from nil. They can revenue share. Schools couldn’t facilitate nil deals until this year. They can introduce Klubnik to DearOldClemson because of the rule changes. Before it was only off campus and the school couldn’t setup deals for players. It’s the Wild West now.

When schools start paying players directly...

... look for all sorts of marketing schemes. Renaming stadiums, renaming fields, corporate logos on the field and all over the stadium, corporate logos on uniforms. (It won't look like NASCAR, but more like NBA or even PGA Tour guys.)
Look for individual games to be involved. The South Carolina Showdown presented by BMW (or some other corporate sponsor) when Clemson plays SC. The Chick-Fil-Shoot out (instead of the Iron Bowl) when Bama plays Auburn.
Those are just examples, not predictions for those two games.

Eliminate human players and that takes care of NlL. Coaches can play video game. Fans can pay $200 per seat to sit in the valley and cheer.
