Tried to use the playoff game to put Tennessee in a fix. Wasn't going to play unless he got extra cash. That's as low as you can go. Other players tried that, too. Very lackluster effort from several.

because there would be a LOT more cash flow going out annually. You would have to agree to pay every player on the roster, all 85 of them (or whatever the limit currently is), via cash if you wanted to fill out a maximum roster is as Clemson would strive to do.

You think its just that simple, call them employees and thats it?
Each team would be subject to any state labor laws on top of federal ones. Laws that currently don't apply to them. There would be no practice limitations because they are employees. Would each state have the same limits on work hours?
What about PTO and benefits? What about health insurance? What about workmans comp insurance and payouts? What about the tax differentials by locality and states? What about TBI or long term effects and the potential liability on the schools? What about unionization? It's bound to happen, is it state level unions or national? How do you feel about the inevitable lockouts? What about midseason trades? What about title IX implications? What if some schools require going to and passing classes and some do not? ...and I am sure 1,000 other things I am not even thinking of.

They already are in an association, the NCAA via the clearinghouse. See how well that has worked out in the last 5 years.
All of the things I listed get many more times complex once they become employees, not to mention the enormous cost to the universities. Also each state can/does dictate laws around labor, unionization, tax etc which would create at best an unlevel playing field and at worst stalement within the burgoening union which would lead to lockouts.
Can it all be worked out? Sure but it would take a decade and the damage done during that time would be irreptuable IMO

Your coach did the right thing, by telling him to pound pavement. Do you think, judging by Tennessees performance, in the playoff game, that the rest of the team may have known, and have been demoralized? He probably should have given him the boot, when he first made his demand. And honestly, looking at his stats, they aren't really that impressive. I'm thinking DJU type numbers, nothing to set the world on fire.

Makes me all that much happier that Dabo nipped this crap in the bud before it even began. We don't have this drama but the media wanted to create some about Clemson for not playing this game. Other programs are reaping what they sowed. Go Tigers!

I am glad Heupel called his bluff. And from the current look of things, whatever school he ends up at will be a SIGNIFICANT drop off from Tennessee. Despite initial rumors, it would appear places like USC, Oregon, and North Carolina want nothing to do with this guy, and rightfully so. UCLA might be his only hope to remain in the power-4, and apparently he could even wind up at a place like Sacramento State! There's virtually no way this could be considered a positive for him. He made a gamble, and it looks like he's gonna pay a massive price for it. To my memory, this is the 1st time in this NIL era that we've seen a major bag-chasing athlete like this really pay a price for his greed. Maybe this will send a message to other athletes that there are actually consequences for these types of actions if you push it too far. I hope other coaches will blackball this guy to send that message.
But on the other hand, what goes around comes around. Tennessee bought and paid for this guy from the very start, just as they have with so many others. They've had several major recruiting violations in the last 5 years, and they've openly bragged about breaking the rules. They've been one of the biggest perpetuators of the misuse of NIL right from the start, shamelessly buying and poaching players, with no consideration for culture or fairness at all. When that's the type of environment you create and players you bring in, this is exactly what you get. So at the end of the day, they only have themselves to blame. You got exactly what you should've expected. A big part of the reason why college athletics is in this state now is because of schools like Tennessee.

If someone pays what his dad and agents are asking ...we enter an even darker realm in NCAA competitive sports. If somebody pony's up 2 million for him it's down that slippery slope we go. Cannot let the "handlers" get the upper hand.
