And he will be taking a pay cut. Most likely he ends up on a team with less talent around him. Some desperate hot-seat coach will take a risk on him. What’s NCSt’s QB room look like?

Colorado already brought in a transfer from Liberty (who was originally at top-50 recruit at Tennessee) and they have an incoming freshman who was ranked as high as the #2 recruit in the country. I don't think they will be bringing in another QB.

Nico I am a leav(a) (y)a has a good chance of becoming the poster child of NIL gone wild. Just curious, is his dad Big Dave’s brother? Isn’t Nico DJ’s cousin? If true, it explains a lot.

He needs to be made an example of. This NIL crap has gotten way out of hand from what it was initially meant for. Classic case of give an inch and take a mile. It's done nothing but installed entitlement in today's kids

I'm not sure Deon would take him. Don't know how much Shedeur was paid when there but doubt he would make a statement by paying Nico more.

Need a system that regulates contracts and terms etc. of course I still think fans slowly lose interest.... Let us see.

When he doesn't get what he wants he can sue the NCAA for collusion.

There would be that pesky need for actual evidence. I’m sure the NCAA is calling up schools and ordering them not to sign him.

Zero market at their ridiculous asking price

He will end up somewhere.

Part of the issue (overall and not just in this case) is that NIL deals aren't public. In professional sports the contracts are all completely disclosed so player A can just point at player Bs contract and use that as a starting point during negotiations.

With NIL all we get are rumors and reported amounts - many of which are likely inaccurate. I've heard a good bit of speculation that Becks deal at Miami is actually around 3mil and not the 4mil that was circulated. Nico's "camp" apparently wanted a deal in Beck's range so they asked for 4mil from Tenn. However, if Beck is actually making 3mil they are overvaluing Nico by 1mil - even if you agree that Nico is as good as Carson Beck.

Now maybe a more professional agent has ways of cutting through the BS and collecting more accurate info on other player's deals, but I doubt Nico's dad has those resources....

You can't compare NFL contracts to NIL. You could compare Steph Curry's Subway advertising deal to NIL, neither of which is publicly disclosed.

Professional sports contracts are made public due to collective bargaining and salary caps. It helps the league and the players for the deals to be exposed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I disagree on that

That was like the rosy, idealistic view of what NIL was supposed to be - a way for players to make money off endorsement deals and such. That's not what NIL actually is. A very small amount of it is that, but the majority of NIL money is a pay-for-play contract masquerading around as something else. It SHOULD be a contract between the schools and the players, but that's obviously not what we have right now. Still, I can't compare NIL to Steph's Subway endorsement deal because that's not the reality of what NIL is at all.

Imagine if the NBA did not allow the Warriors to pay Steph directly (for reasons) so they instead had to set up "endorsement deals" for him in order to pay him his salary, but 90% of the money he was getting from "endorsement deals" was actually just money routed to him from rich Warriors fans in Silicon Valley (likely organized and directed by the Warriors front office themselves even though they aren't supposed to actually have anything to do with the process) through some kind of weird shadow collective.

Is as about as dumb as it gets. Everyone already has their qb because they wanted them for spring so unless there was significant injury or someone was awful, you only move is probably down or even lateral.
