Nick Saban

My instincts just keep bringing me back to Nicky. I know, I know. Sounds crazy.
But who else would honestly elicit an eye roll from David? He's a DB coach who is great friends with Dabo and could easily fill his own staff.
I can't imagine he actually enjoys his GameDay job nearly as much as coaching defense somewhere. He still has a few good years left and Clemson DC is the PERFECT (relatively) low stakes job for him to enjoy a life on the lake while being able to continue doing what he loves - teaching elite defense. Not to mention Clemson has a #### good track record with player retention right now, something that would factor in majorly for him.
Could it be?

Truly implausible. Not because I could not see a scenario where Saban would return to college coaching, although I think that is 1:1,000,000, but because there would be nothing preventing that already being announced.

While he compiles a staff with the predecessor working directly with him.
It's an insanely long shot. But like I said, if anyone could pull it off, it's Dabo.

Dabo could never pull this off. Dabo likes yes men. He fought with Brent constantly, though I think that made the team better. Saban would never take #### from Dabo and vice versa. You might as well suggest we're replacing Riley with Andy Reid.

He wouldn’t be a head coach so he wouldn’t have to deal with NIL deals, transfer portal etc. he could just coach defense. He could get any player he wanted with one visit to mommas house so recruiting wouldn’t be that strenuous.

If he wanted to to he would be the highest paid coach in college football as a HC next season. No reason to be a DC at Clemson. He would also take about a 8 million per year pay cut from what he is making now not even coaching football. There is zero reason for him to even consider it.

That Saban will do something completely unexpected.
But seriously, the dude is loaded. I don't think it's about the money at this point. He's at a certain age where I could absolutely see him taking a more low key role where he still "runs the show," which Dabo (or any head coach at the college level) would obviously let him do in terms of the defense.
When you're truly passionate about something, you will make decisions that make absolutely zero rational sense. Nick is truly passionate about teaching and coaching defense.

I would love to see that link.
I said trust in Dabo and have faith. You're confusing me with BaseballCharlie who has pretty much told us three different candidates were inked and signed at this point.
And yes, I discussed the unspoken code of PROFESSIONALS across all disciplines.
And here we are on January 6th without a formal announcement, so looks like my theory holds water that Dabo wanted to wait until all games have been played and the season has concluded before moving the chess pieces.

As each day passes with no DC announcement I’m convinced it’s an NFL playoff coordinator and/or Nick Saban! HA! I’m with you on this improbable situation with Saban. Each TV time he gets he seems more and more miserable working for ESPN. Retired coaches becoming bench coaches and/or mentor type assistants late in life is common in the MLB & NBA so crazier things have happened in sports (Belichick to UNC proved that!). We shall see my friends! GO TIGERS!
