New Story: Tigers waiting patiently on 4-star WR Jordyn Adams

Tigers waiting patiently on 4-star WR Jordyn Adams

While Jordyn Adams continues to mull his options, the defending national champions are patiently waiting. With the way Clemson’s recruiting is going, the Tigers don’t wait on many prospects but for the two-sport Cary (NC) Green Hope standout, they wait and hope he chooses to don the Tiger Paw in 2018.(Photo by David Grooms) Full Story »

Just curious why is Clemson waiting on Adams? Do we not have a shot at landing Ross or Eagles?

Since Adams wants to play both baseball and football, I wonder if there is a chance we can take him and one of the other receivers with only one scholarship used. Since he is more of a baseball player that has found football, why not put him on scholarship with the baseball team. He wouldn't take up a spot and we could "wait" on him while not having to neglect Ross or Eagles.

It doesn't work that way...

May 10, 2017, 9:29 AM

If Adams chooses Clemson, even as a two-sport athlete, his scholarship would count against the total number of available scholarships for football.

Makes sense

It's the Bear Bryant rule. Bryant would regularly use all of Alabama's baseball scholarships on football prospects.

Re: It doesn't work that way... well, it can

actually, there is way to bring him in on a baseball 'ship. its just not very practical or more importantly, attractive to the kid. you sign him to a baseball ship (and hopefully find enough academic aid to get him to or near a full ship). then he RS in football. he doesn't count against football until he actually PLAYS IN A GAME. he can practice, etc, do all the things a RS does. we did this with mark buckholtz, the K, a few years back. he was on a soccer ship until he played his 1st football game. so, in theory, Adams jumps thru those hoops, goes on full football ship in dec/jan as member of the 19 class which has more room.

but in reality, other schools will offer a full football ship, prob with the promise of no RS, and the op to play baseball.. a more attractive offer. if we sign adams, it would almost certainly be a football ship, with the baseball option

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Technically you're right...

May 10, 2017, 12:46 PM

You could sign him to a baseball ship and have him red shirt in football.

He wouldn't count against the football scholarship total until he actually played in a game.

What if there wasn't a scholarship in FB to give, but there was one in Baseball, how would that work???

works the same way. he goes on football ship as soon as he PLAYS IN A GAME

I would think he could be considered a Walk On for football, and just use the baseball scholarship. Only problem there, baseball rarely gives out full scholarships. Right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't believe the NCAA will let you do that ...

May 10, 2017, 9:59 AM

... there are rules in place to prevent just that sort of thing from happening.

The opportunities for abuse are too great. You could hide football players on all sorts of other sports, saving football scholarships.

Football players always count as a football scholarship even if they play baseball or any other sport (NCAA rules).

I could see him playing baseball as a freshman and possibly red shirting in football... not sure any WR freshman in 2018 will see the field as a WR. Tee Higgens and Amari Cooper and the upper classmen are pretty good WRs.

Center Fielder in baseball tranlates better to Safety than WR.... how big is Jordyn?

Jordyn Adams is Jeff Scott's top choice***

We targeted Adams early on as one of our two primary targets. Remember our staff makes their own ratings so they likely have Adams higher than the others

Since he wants to play baseball too and we are limited on schollys with football is there any way we could give him a baseball scholly to keep room for another WR. I really like this kid he is really fast and likes his film but idk I think ross or eagles are both better WR in my opinion tho i like Adams and he is very good as well. Just thinking about anway to get Adams and ross or another high caliber Wideout!!

Idk why tnet keeps double posting my stuff. From reading comments doesn't look like we could do that. Even if he was baseball player first and football as second sport just brain storming. I like ross and eagles more and think they have better chance to see the field and would live to steal ross from bama and auburn but I trust the coaches on who they take it's got us this far can't start doubting now Go Tigers!!

We don't need to slow play Ross or Eagles if one or both want to commit. Adams needs to make his mind up.

My guess is we arent slowplaying anyone. Its a matter of them making up their mind. Ross is getting pressure to stay in bama. Eagles, he is loving the recruiting game, and no telling where he is going. I think the Tigers would be happy to get one of them.

Do You really think that Jeff Scott would get on a plane and fly to Cary, NC to talk to Adams if he felt like we weren't in the running?

Re: New Story: Tigers waiting patiently on 4-star WR Jordyn Adams

May 10, 2017, 5:52 PM

We are in the running for all three players. Adams likes Monte Lee and Dabo . Ross compares himself to Mike Williams. His mother is in the military. Dabo has a lot to sell here. Eagles is the mystery to me. He wants to play early and likes our offense. It was posted on here that he is favoring Clemson but wants to keep it quiet to tone down the instate pressure. Which Clemson juniors will go pro after next season? That has to figure into the numbers.

If Adams chooses CLEMSON,I guess he might be the first player to play on NC teams in football and baseball. He's gotta love that.

Word around the campfire around here (NC)

Adams is UNC bound.
