I will never forget Cassanova McKinney chose Auburn over us because we didn't have a chic-fil-a even though there is and was one 3 mins (if that) from the campus..

Try best two. It has been Bama and us for several years now. UGA might be closing in on third, but we will just see how this year goes.

I don't know but his concern about whether a particular school is interested in "white" running backs is kinda strange. I don't think the coaches care what color you are as long as you perform. He might want to tone that down a little bit or a lot.
Funny that everyone in that picture seems to have something in common.

CM just because they're both white (which aren't too common for running backs these days) instead of other aspects of his game.

The kid is probably speaking the truth. I knew people who had never watch McCaffrey play in school yet they went on and on about him. Some finally admitted they were just Happy to have a good white RB. That has been a position dominated recently by black players so something a little from the norm catches people's attention. At one time a Black QB was an anomaly, but that has changed. I believe a baller is gonna ball regardless. I think Clemson might be in good standing because he acknowledged that Coach V tried to recruit his brother, so he knows coach V was looking purely at talent and not trying to recruit his brother or him because they are an 'anomaly' that would bring press to their program. I think this kid is just acknowledging this.

If you're so concerned about what a kid says in an interview, maybe you should take it up with him?

I see what he has said as being completely neutral. He is a white RB, and bc he is white, like it or not, he has been put in a spot of being compared to another good white RB as Christian McCaffery and that seems to be a natural assessment to me anyway. Just bc he is white, and he is suppose to be a talented RB being compared to another good white RB, please don't attempt to turn it into something racist, or accuse him of being racist bc he is a white RB that reminds others as a white Christian McCafferry.

Have we quit recruiting SC? We can't give it to the Chickens. There has to be some players in our state worthy of our attention.

This is interesting. I was always under the impression Clemson vetted and researched any player for character, fit for the program, etc. This article leads one to believe our coaches took a look at his film after being urged by another coach while they were recruiting a different player. The only reason I point this out is his repeated comments on race and not going anywhere to sit on the bench should raise a few flags.

Why would it raise flags that he wants to make an impact and that a lot of schools don't want white running backs? You think that is false?

He has an offer after his coach vouched for him. I imagine some of the other school officials also vouched for his character. He would need to visit before commiting which gives CU time for additional investigation. If he does not check out we would quietly walk away.
BTW do we recruit anyone who expects to sit on the bench?

We have 6 great players from SC coming in this year. 7 if you include Thomas. So no I don't think we have quit recruiting the state. Plus a lot of places in Georgia are closer to Clemson than places in SC. It is great that we can recruit players in states nationwide. We are still getting who we want in state. There is a lot of talent in Texas why would we not recruit there?

We OWN the coots in this state.
Jan 19, 2018, 4:39 PM
[ in reply to Re: New Story: Texas running back picks up offer from "one of the best four teams in the nation" ] |

We got the #2 and #3 SC players in 2015, #1 and #2 SC players in 2016 and the #1 SC player for 2018.
Top SC player in 2015 was a O-lineman; we took Mitch Hyatt (three, likely four-year All ACC starter) out of GA instead.
Last year the top SC guys were two 4* WRs and a 4* TE. We didn't take a TE at all, and we got Tee Higgins (5*) and Amari Rodgers (4*) from other states, who both had nice true freshman campaigns and are looking prime to step up even bigger this year.
We fleece the coots almost every year. When we don't, it's usually cause we get higher ranked players elsewhere or because we don't have need at their positions.

Who cares about SCarolina! I get so sick of people making everything about them, it shows your insecurities. Why are they on your mind so much, we should be on their minds not the other way around. Can we have one thread that doesn't bring them up? I'm on here for Clemson related stuff.

If 50+% of each recruiting class consisted of South Carolinians. We wouldn't be competing for national championships.

We own the coots in any state. Their biggest success in SC was only when they first hired Spurrier, he was big in name that fizzed out pretty quick bc recruits saw that he was at the end of his road as a HC of his past....

We took 4 "OTs" in 2015. Hyatt (Top 2), Fruhmorgen (Top 5 - 8), Noah Green (Top 38/37 - ESPN #11) and Zach Giella (Top 61/68 - ESPN #38). We offered Zack Bailey and would have taken him but he obviously wanted to be the only O-linemen on the team. That and his high school coach is All-Coot.
Either way, only Rivals had, Zack, as the #1 Overall Recruit in the State in 2015. Both 247 and ESPN had him at #5. 247 had Albert Huggins at #1 and ESPN had Noah Green as the #1 in SC for the 2015 cycle.

He also appears to have a high motor and is deceptively quick.
Reminds me of Leonard Fournette or H Renfrow.

I see what you mean with Renfrow, but not with Fournette. Fournette is a mauler of a running back with good top end speed. This guy is shifty like McCaffrey, and has some good vision. But he definitely does not have the size advantage (5'11", 185 to 6'1" 228) like Fournette

Seems very mature. I was struck that he said he didn't know much about Clemson but he seemed to know a lot for a Texas high school student (best facilities, slide in the Reeves Football complex, on a lake, beautiful campus).

The comments of race struck me as odd as well. I get it, he’s not CM based on being a white running back. I also found it odd BV made the offer and his recruiting profile says “Safety” js

A little bit strange that he twice brought up race, seemingly unprompted.
I guess he uses it as a source of motivation, maybe tells himself that people don't believe in him because of the lack of white RBs.

He also mentioned "another athelete" when he was talking about our coaches coming by to check out his teammate; the intial reason our coaches were there at his school. If his hands are good I could see him maning a role as a slot WR/RB combo. You'd think he would have to grow a few inches taller to play safety at Clemson., which is a possibility.

He seems to have found his chip and a player is always better with one on his shoulder. Needs to be tempered so that attitude doesn't wear too thin with his teammates. Talent at the next level will be more equal and every edge helps. Ben B's chip carried him a long ways and helped him become a team leader with much respect.

Watched his Frosh/soph highlights and it was mostly at cornerback. Very instinctive in open field tackles and run support. His junior highlights were at RB. Kid is def a baller and gets north-south very quickly. He runs just like a clone of brother Cam - Norte dame. Used as a receiver out of backfield a good amount in junior highlights. His brother was by all accounts a standup dude at ND. They are from a very religious family so quit with with the triggered racism crapola. You don't even know the kid. Having been a white hs RB I can relate to where he's coming from. Every school that recruited me wanted me for a receiver or tight end before they ever even saw me work out at rb. There are paradigms in sport just like life and they can present challenges. He was acknowledging that realization in his comments. I'll bet Venables told Dabo he wanted him at corner if he doesn't work out at RB, hence the on-the-spot offer. The kid is a ball player. We'd be fortunate to get him.
